Good one
I guess so
Of course it's a mod; REFramework to be exact
Plot twist: the Izuchi was completely fine after this event
and then we have Zinogre defying the laws of gravity
Stay safe from the extreme heat, folks
@Dargonbarn Oh, "Dire"! I like that!
Wait a minute, we already have Dire Miralis...
Love how this isn't just a massive Boggi with bigger parts; it's got completely different colors
Also, if it were to have a name, I'd like to imagine that it would have its own title like Royal Ludroth
This ain't just a small, insignificant goblin raptor; this is a large and brutish orc-like drome/great equivalent
He just sled backwards in a static posture
@Abiyansyah I don't think he can still do that in embiggen mode...
I barely understood that but thanks either way
[Disclaimer: All of these Japanese names, aside from Caeserber’s, are made up by me and aren’t official. This is merely made for fun and may even teach people how parts of Monster Hunter etymology work.]
Recently, I received info from none other than @Nack The Dragon (MHO researcher extraordinaire). It seems out of all the Online monsters, Caeserber is the only one with an official JP name: ケセルベル (Keseruberu). So what if the rest of the roster got the same treatment? Let’s have a look!
To start off, here’s a list of names that are simply transliterated to Japanese:
Baelidae
バエリダエ (Baeridae)
Estrellian
エストレリアン (Esutorerian)
Merphistophelin
メフィストフェリン (Mefisutoferin)
Slicemargl
スライスマグル (Suraisumaguru)
Tartaronis
タルタロニス (Tarutaronisu)
Now we get to the names that I had to think real hard in order to make them more decent:
Chramine
クラミニク (Kuraminiku)
Take “Chramine”, transliterate, but this time add miniku (kanji: 醜 / kana: みにく), the Japanese word meaning “ugly”. Interestingly, if you look at Chramine’s concept art, it was going to look way different from the Gypceros lookalike that it is now. Makes you wonder why, doesn’t it?
Disaster Wyvern
ルロコヤク (Rurokoyaku)
My personal favorite of all the names I made! So for a long time, I heard that this monster actually had a proper English name: Koyaku. Whether it’s official I have no idea, but I knew I had to implement it into the Japanese name. However, while “Koyaku” on its own can fit as the localized name, “コヤク” is obviously too short for a JP one, let alone that of a large monster. So I looked for extra words, and picked out lǜ / 綠 (Chinese for “green”, like the monster’s color) and loco, as in locomotive, since the monster charges at you like one, but loco can also mean ‘crazy’, and its fight surely was so. Also this may or may not be a coincidence, but the “yaku” in Koyaku can be the Japanese word for “disaster” (kanji: 厄 / kana: やく), like Disaster Wyvern.
Lightenna
アカラテナ (Akaratena)
For this one, I wanted the Japanese name to have practically the same meaning as the English one. There’s akari (kanji: 灯 / kana: あかり), meaning “light”. As well as kara (kanji: 殻 / kana: から), meaning “shell”, like a beetle’s exoskeleton. And of course, “-tena” is from ‘antenna’.
Now we get to subspecies, which are pretty straightforward. All you need to do is put ‘亜種’ (which is Japanese for subspecies, go figure) in front of a monster’s Japanese name. Same goes with Rare Species, but instead we use ‘希少種’ (I don’t have to explain this one, right?). Anyway, on with the sub/rare species list:
Arbiter Estrellian
エストレリアン希少種 (Esutorerian Kishō-shu)
Doom Estrellian
エストレリアン亜種 (Esutorerian Ashu)
Dread Baelidae
バエリダエ亜種 (Baeridae Ashu)
Ice Chramine
クラミニク亜種 (Kuraminiku Ashu)
Infernal Tartaronis
タルタロニス亜種 (Tarutaronisu Ashu)
Poikilos Lightenna
アカラテナ亜種 (Akaratena Ashu)
Purple Slicemargl
スライスマグル亜種 (Suraisumaguru Ashu)
Yellow Caeserber
ケセルベル亜種 (Keseruberu Ashu)
Alright… Lone Species. They’re actually simple to do as well (except a certain duo which we’ll get to later)
Step 1: translate “lone species” to Japanese, of which you’ll get 孤独な種
Step 2: shorten it to 孤独種 since it should only contain kanji (a system of Japanese writing using Chinese characters)
Step 3: offer the same treatment as the subs & rares. Electric boogaloo, anyone?
Flame Blangonga
ドドブランゴ孤独種 (Dodoburango Kodoku-shu)
Flame Tigrex
ティガレックス孤独種 (Tigarekkusu Kodoku-shu)
Gold Congalala
ババコンガ孤独種 (Babakonga Kodoku-shu)
Gold Hypnocatrice
ヒプノック孤独種 (Hipunokku Kodoku-shu)
Gonngenn Hermitaur
ダイミョウザザミ孤独種 (Daimyōzazami Kodoku-shu)
Onimusha
ショウグンギザミ孤独種 (Shōgungizami Kodoku-shu)
Sandstone Basarios
バサルモス孤独種 (Basarumosu Kodoku-shu)
Guren Shen Gaoren & Teppeki Shen Gaoren… now this is the aforementioned duo. I mean, they come from the same monster, so “シェンガオレン孤独種” is not a go at all. There’s gotta be a way to differentiate the two names… Oh I know! It just so happens that 紅蓮 (Guren; “crimson lotus”) and 鉄壁 (Teppeki; “iron wall”) are original Japanese words, so how about this…
Guren Shen Gaoren
シェンガオレン紅蓮孤独種 (Shengaoren Guren Kodoku-shu)
Teppeki Shen Gaoren
シェンガオレン鉄壁孤独種 (Shengaoren Teppeki Kodoku-shu)
Last but not least, the Variants. I actually came up with JP names for them in an older post as shown below.

Now, the way I see it, how Japanese grammar works is that you put the noun before the verb. Take Blackveil Vaal Hazak for example: if you combine 死 (Shi; “death”) and 纏う (Matou; to wear) into a phrase, you would get 死を纏う (Shi o matou; literally “wearing death”). Oh yeah, and these phrases should only have 4 to 6 characters, except Rusted Kushala Daora who only has 3.
Conflagration Rathian
烈火振るうリオレイア (Rekka Furū Rioreia)
Literal Translation: “Rathian that wields raging fire”
Crystal Basarios
紅山を運ぶバサルモス (Beniiwa o Hakobu Basarumosu)
Literal Translation: “Basarios that carries a crimson mountain”
Elemental Merphistophelin
全相支配するメフィストフェリン (Zensō Shihai Suru Mefisutoferin)
Literal Translation: “Merphistophelin that rules all phases”
Ghost Caeserber
戦没から戻るケセルベル (Senbotsu Kara Modoru Keseruberu)
Literal Translation: “Caeserber that returned from its death in battle”
One-Eared Yian Garuga
片耳だけイャンガルルガ (Katamimi Dake I~yangaruruga)
Literal Translation: “Yian Garuga with only one ear”
Shattered Monoblos
壊れた角でモノブロス (Kowareta Tsuno De Monoburosu)
Literal Translation: “Monoblos with a broken horn”
Swordmaster Shogun Ceanataur
二刀熟練するショウグンギザミ (Nitō Jukuren Suru Shōgungizami)
Literal Translation: “Shogun Ceanataur that became skilled with two swords”
And that’s every MHO monster if they had Japanese names! What do y’all think of them? Perhaps you got your own takes? Lemme know down below and have a good time!
Big thanks to you for explaining this as well, man 👍
This is somewhat related to this post here

I mean of course you can’t always rely on the wiki when it comes to info, but like, if you look at this…
These were WAY BEFORE the edit in Caeserber’s page, so ケセルベル (Keseruberu), as this fella is named in Japanese, is either official or made up by the community. However, given that the edit is by @Nack The Dragon, who is pretty much a specialist in MHO’s stuff, it’s most likely the former.
Either way though, I’ll definitely use “ケセルベル” rather than “シサルベル” (the version I made up myself; see the post linked above) from now on.
“Fan-made Japanese names for MHO’s monsters” will be coming… at some later time.
The Japanese names are made up by me. The English ones are ‘official’
Well… it’s been veeeery long since I’ve been in this particular place, so humble greetings! Now let’s get this over with!
Ghost Caeserber
交戦の怨霊シーサルベル (Kōsen no Onryō Shīsaruberu)
Literal translation: “Vengeful Ghost of War Caeserber”
Crystal Basarios
赤結晶性のバサルモス (Aka Kesshō-sei no Basarumosu)
Literal translation: “Red Crystalline Basarios”
Swordmaster Shogun Ceanataur
剣熟練るショウグンギザミ (Kenjukurenru Shōgungizami)
Literal Translation: ”A Shogun Ceanataur That’s Proficient In Swords”
One-Eared Yian Garuga
片耳だけイャンガルルガ (Katamimi Dake Iyangaruruga)
Literal Translation: ”A Yian Garuga With Only One Ear”
Shattered Monoblos
断れ刃角モノブロス (Kotoware Ha-kaku Monoburosu)
Literal Translation: ”A Monoblos with a Broken Blade Horn”
Conflagration Rathian
烈火振るうリオレイア (Rekka Furū Rioreia)
Literal Translation: ”Conflagration-Wielding Rathian”
Elemental Merphistophelin
至高五相メフィストフェリン (Shikō Gosō Mefisutoferin)
Literal Translation: ”Merphistophelin with Five Supreme Phases”
I might do a “Japanese names for every MHO monster” while I’m at it. Coming soon perhaps…
In the meantime, what do y’all think of these names?
