The Admiral is the formal leader of the Research Commission in Astera and a member of the First Fleet.

Personality

The Admiral has always been a free spirit. He doesn't like being tied down or waiting, preferring to find out answers for himself—hence why he leaves the Commander in charge of things in Astera. He speaks his mind and takes off before anyone can react, disappearing into the wilderness for lengths of time. He likens himself to a sharq; he has to keep moving to stay alive, and he won't rest until he's explored all of the New World.[1] Practical and risible, he demonstrates a zest for life.

Background

The Admiral came to the New World as part of the First Fleet forty years ago. Although he calls himself "the top dog" of the Research Commission, he's always been more of a trailblazer than a commander. The way he sees it, it's important to know one's strengths.[2] Among his circle of friends, one did the thinking, another the commanding, another the tracking, while he did the fieldwork.[3] It worked well for a long time, until the Seeker struck out to uncover the truth of the Elder Crossing by himself. The Admiral felt bad for the Commander, since that left him with another role to fulfill.[4] However, he remains confident in the man's skill to run Astera, which leaves him free to wander as far as he pleases. The Admiral was also friends with the Huntsman and the grandfather of the Handler.[5]

The Admiral only rarely appears in Astera, leaving daily affairs to the Commander. He admits the main reason he comes back is so he can eat at the canteen, which is run by his old partner the Meowscular Chef.[6] Even after the Chef retired from being a Palico, the two remained close. As of late, the Admiral has been tracking Nergigante.

Appearance

Standing a head taller than most people, the Admiral strikes an imposing figure with his burly physique and mane of unkempt hair. The Huntsman describes him as a "beast of a man with golden hair growing so thick on his body, you'd mistake him for a Rajang".[7]

Notes

  • According to the Second Fleet Master, the Admiral doesn't use a Slinger because he thinks it's "cumbersome" and that he could just throw the item in question... much to the Second Fleet Master's chagrin.[8]
  • The Admiral admits that the Huntsman was always a better fighter and swordsman than him, but he'd beat him in an arm wrestling or eating contest.[9]
