Monster Hunter Wiki

Anjanath is a Brute Wyvern first introduced in Monster Hunter: World.

Appearance

Anjanath resembles a Tyrannosaurus, the King of the real-world dinosaurs (or a Dilophosaurus when it flip its nose, showing its crest); it has black and grey fur on its back which coupled with its flesh-toned scales, make it look similar to the archetypal image of a vulture. Its hide is primarily pink in color, while a dark pelt covers its back which ends in a ruff at the neck, leaving the head bald. Large fangs protrude from the monster's lower jaw, giving it the appearance of an under-bite. Anjanath's massive jaws are counterbalanced by its bulky tail, the underside of which is lined with quills. Compared to its powerful hind legs, the monster's forearms are extremely small. Hidden beneath the monster's pelt is a pair of dorsal sails, which only flare out at select moments. Anjanath can also unfold a prominent nasal crest, which it uses to mark its territory via mucus, sniff out prey, or indicate heightened aggression. Once primed, the flame sac located in Anjanath's throat will glow a fiery red.

Abilities

Anjanath has powerful jaws that allow it to lift up large creatures and throw them around and even rip apart foes, along with a powerful nose used for smelling out prey. It also has the ability to breathe fire from its mouth utilizing an organ in its throat. Anjanath are relentless predators that will chase down anything that dares attack them. Once they've been provoked, Anjanath won't let an enemy get away easily. When enraged, Anjanath will breathe heavily and reveal its nostrils. It will also occasionally flash small fins from its back in an effort to threaten their target, making them seem larger in appearance. Anjanath's head and legs can be wounded, the legs becoming more suspectible to damage when broken. Its tail can also be severed.

Behavior

In the Ancient Forest, Anjanath is in the middle of the food chain. Anjanath has Turf Wars with every monster that is found exclusively in the Ancient Forest, but it has none for any monster that is found in the Wildspire Waste. Once enraged, Anjanath will chase down any foe in its way. It will even chase hunters into other areas, following them without a second thought until they become hidden very well or are killed. This is also true for most large monsters in the game.[1]

In-Game Description

Monster Hunter World
The Anjanath patrols the Ancient Forest looking for its favorite meal, Aptonoth. This belligerent monster will attack anything without the slightest provocation.
Monster Hunter Rise
This belligerent monster will attack anything without hesitation. The membrane along its tail fans out when it is provoked-a behavior theorized to be either an act of intimidation or thermoregulation, as it has been known to do so when it breathes fire.
Threat Level (危険度): ★★★★★★
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
These belligerent monsters will tenaciously pursue and attack without the slightest provocation, burying their fangs deep into anything that strays too close. The large spikes on their bottom jaws heat up, turning their breath into a flurry of flames.
Monster Hunter Now
Infamous for its belligerence, this brute wyvern indiscriminately attacks all without hesitation. The large membrane extending from its waist to the base of its tail fans out when it becomes agitated. This fan-like membrane is thought to be used not only for intimidation, but also as a mode of body temperature control. This is attributed to the fact that when Anjanath expels flames from its mouth, the membrane has been spotted expanding in tandem, releasing excess heat.

Notes

General Notes

  • Anjanath was the first new monster to be revealed for Monster Hunter World, first appearing in the E3 2017 reveal trailer.
  • An official prototype video of Monster Hunter World featuring Anjanath in an early version of Ancient Forest hunting an Aptonoth, then relentlessly pursuing the main hunter to the very top of the locale. After falling from Area 16's dam landslide, Anjanath is then slain by a Lagiacrus.
    • Though likely showcasing the new Turf War mechanic, the fight did not make it into the final game, as Lagiacrus was cut due to Leviathan animation issues; this was fixed in Monster Hunter Wilds with the Balahara and the fixes being official revealed by the developers, in addition to Lagiacrus's debut in Title Update 2 of Monster Hunter Wilds.
  • Anjanath was voted 106th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[2]

Monster Hunter: World

  • Anjanath's head and legs can be broken, and its tail severed.
  • When Anjanath is enraged and starts breathing fire, puffs of flame will periodically damage and inflict Fireblight to anyone close to its head.

  • Monster Hunter Rise

  • Anjanath can appear in The Rampage. It is considered a Gate Crasher type.
  • Anjanath gains a new attack where it digs up a boulder and launches it at their target, which can also easily strike airborne foes.
    • This boulder can deal terrain damage (Water, Ice) but not inflict respective blights.
  • In Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, Anjanath gains a new attack where it slowly walks towards the hunter and then slams its jaws into the ground.
    • This may be reminiscent to a move its subspecies has.
    • Anjanath also gains another new charge where it spews fire afterwards.

  • Monster Hunter Now

  • TBA

  • Monster Hunter Stories 2

  • It is the first Rage-Rayed monster fought and slain, though it's slain in the second fight.
