“ | An omnivorous small monster with a distinct round shape. Its whole body courses with flammable gas, which it expels in defense when threatened. Once expelled, this gas has explosive properties. This trait has led to Bombadgy being used in combat by many crafty hunters throughout history. | „ | |
Bombadgy is a Fanged Beast first introduced in Monster Hunter Rise.
Physiology
Bombadgy has an appearance of an obese badger or raccoon with gray flabby skins and long tendril-like eyebrows. Along its back are three jagged rows, with another row on each side of its body. Its legs are scaled and end in five digits with long claws.
Behavior and Ability
The Bombadgy will only attack when provoked. Despite this, they don't cower from potential fights and will bark and growl at the nearby creature until left alone or attacked.
Carried inside the Bombadgy’s body is a lot of flammable gas which it uses to defend itself. Once expelled, the gas will explode, making this monster a literal living bomb.

Notes
General Notes
- Bombadgy is based off of the Bake-danuki yōkai from Japanese folklore.
- In fact, it gets its Japanese name, Bunbujina (ブンブジナ), from a Japanese folktale: Bunbuku Chagama (分福茶釜), which involves a tanuki. The second half of the name is from mujina (kanji: 貉 / kana: むじな), the Japanese word for "badger". Mujina can also refer to a yōkai that is very similar to the tanuki.
- As for its localized English name, it is simply a blend between bomb and badger.
