Canynes are Fanged Beasts introduced in Monster Hunter Rise.
Appearance[]
A Canyne is a dog-like Fanged Beast that also resembles the domestic dogs' distinct relative, the wolf. Individual appearance of these monsters differs greatly, with a wide range of colors, ear and tail shapes, and different markings being observed.
Behavior and Abilities[]
Canynes are capable of moving at a high speed, performing great leaps and even climbing sheer slopes. The Canynes of Kamura Village are trained to become Hunting Buddies, similar to Felynes. These Canynes are called "Palamutes".
Canynes are very intelligent, and will respond to orders given to them. They are also capable of using various types of weapons specially designed for them. They are strong enough to carry a hunter on their back without dropping in speed. Similar to Felynes, they are often equipped with armour specially designed to fit their anatomy when out in the field.

Notes[]
General Notes
- As revealed in the final Digital Event for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, 67% Players prefer the Palamutes over Palicoes.
- The name 'Palamute' is likely a play on the word 'Malamute', which is a breed of dog in our own world.
- There are concept sketches for Monster Hunter Generations showing a "hound" companion that can be used for combat. The idea was most likely reused in Rise after being scrapped from Generations. The sketches are from the book "モンス夕ー八ン夕ーフェス夕'16 オフィシャルパンフレット&「モンスー八ン夕ークロス」秘蔵企画スケッチ".
Monster Hunter Stories 2
- In the English version, it is called a "Palamute" instead of a Canyne.
