Monster Hunter Wiki

Cephalopods (Japanese: 頭足類 Tōsokurui) are a class of monsters introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. This class of monster is mostly found at the top of their respective ecosystem's food chain, and are characterized by the presence of 8 prehensile appendages much like an octopus that allows them to gracefully move and climb through any terrain, and attack from any angle. However, all Cephalopod species known so far only have 6 usable tentacles, with the pair closest to their eyes being heavily atrophied. Their boneless bodies allow them to squeeze through impossibly tight spaces (despite this, pitfall trap works against them), and while some do posses eyes, their vision is poor and they mostly rely on other sensory organs to locate their prey.

Sixth Generation Cephalopods[]

Notes[]

  • Cephalopods were introduced in the Sixth Generation of the Monster Hunter series and as such, no Cephalopod existed in the Generations prior to Sixth and in Monster Hunter Orage.
    • Although Nakarkos, Yama Tsukami, and Yama Kurai have similar appearances, such as tentacles and an octopus-like appearance, they are classified as Elder Dragons rather than Cephalopods.
  • "Cephalopod" is also the name of a real-life taxonomical classification within animal kingdom that covers octopi, squids, cuttlefish etc.
  • Rarely, Cephalopod monsters will produce "Cerebrospinal Fluid" when carved, which is interesting since real life cephalopods are invertebrates and thus do not have cerebrospinal fluid.
