Crimson Glow Valstrax is a Variant of Valstrax introduced in Monster Hunter Rise.

Physiology[]

Due to the rampant dragon energy flowing through its body, Crimson Glow Valstrax has permanent glowing red marks connecting from the chest to the wings, showing up on the sides and wing-arms. The wings have a different design than a normal Valstrax's wings, looking more like exhaust vents, and are covered in glowing red color similar to a normal enraged Valstrax. When inhaling air, the wings will glow a bright red and start spewing out dragon energy. When enraged, dragon energy starts to spew out from the nostrils on the back of its head as exhaust, while its torso glows red in color, with large amounts of dragon energy coming out from the vents in its chest and shoulders.

Abilities[]

Crimson Glow Valstrax is a unique mutation of Valstrax caused by an inability to contain and control its own Dragon element, causing it to continously "leak" out of its body. Because of this, Crimson Glow Valstrax exhibits unusual phenomena such as discharging indiscriminate cascades of exploding fireballs during flight, or littering its surroundings with explosive patches of draconic energy whenever fighting. Its energy-based attacks are more uncontrolled but have a much higher power output, with its draconic blasts becoming more volatile and explosive, and it becoming able to discharge a massive amount of Dragon element as a laser beam.

Behavior[]

It is far more aggressive than its normal variant and is known to indiscriminately attack anything in sight, even attacking dangerous Elder Dragons such as Amatsu without hesitation. This is due to the fact that its dragon energy has gone rampant, altering its behavior in response to the constant pain caused by the energy, and making it less reclusive compared to its normal counterpart. Crimson Glow Valstrax will often suddenly ambush Hunters and monsters alike by suddenly dive-bombing them from the high atmosphere, akin to the invader monster Bazelgeuse, or Khezu.

Due to a combination of its high natural strength that is enhanced by its mutation and its newfound aggressiveness, Crimson Glow Valstrax is said to be on a threat level equivalent to Thunder Serpent Narwa/Narwa the Allmother and the strongest Apex Monsters.

In-Game Description[]

Monster Hunter Rise
A mutant Valstrax fearsomely dubbed the "Crimson Glow". This elder dragon typically secludes itself in the upper atmosphere, but it has been driven mad by its own rampant energy, causing to lash out at anything in its sight. Once it sights its prey, it swoops down, trampling them beneath its shifting wingblades. Several have been sighted all over, so be prepared to encounter one at any time.
Threat Level (危険度): ★★★★★★★★★★

Hunting Tips[]

After channeling energy into its wings, it will unleash a powerful attack. It sucks in this energy from its chest, and that's the moment to wait for. Prevent it from powering up and cause the energy to combust, dealing serious damage to the creature.

Notes[]

General Notes

  • Crimson Glow Valstrax was added to Monster Hunter Rise in the 3.0 Title Update on May 27th, 2021.
    • This monster was subtly teased at release in the Sandy Plains’ 9th Relic Message, the sentence “As the crimson glow falls upon us, our people flee this land; but I promise to survive, that we two may reunite.” written on the underground ruins walls in the story.
  • Crimson Glow Valstrax is the second Variant in the series to be introduced in a game where its standard version is not present, following Scarred Yian Garuga.
  • Crimson Glow Valstrax is the final monster that can be unlocked in Monster Hunter Rise before the release of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.
  • Crimson Glow Valstrax is similar to Primordial Malzeno of Sunbreak.
    • Both Elder Dragons are Variant of Flagship Monsters.
    • Both were the final monsters to be added in their respective update.
  • Crimson Glow Valstrax was voted 20th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]

Monster Hunter Rise

  • Unlike the standard Valstrax, which only tries to inhale when it needs to after a certain time has passed, the Crimson Glow Valstrax will actively try to inhale as it fights to enter a new state where its wings would take a pure crimson glow. Its chest temporarily becomes a weak point as it inhales air.
    • Just like with the standard Valstrax, if enough damage is dealt on the chest during this period, its chest will explode with dragon energy, dealing a huge damage to Valstrax and topples it, leaving it open to attacks.
    • During this state, after performing a rocket dash towards the hunter, Crimson Glow Valstrax can hover high in the air. At that point, it will follow up by either landing and shooting out draconic energy blasts or diving down on the hunter.
    • During this state, Crimson Glow Valstrax's wing slam attacks will leave the patch of dragon energy that will explode after a few seconds.
    • During this state, Crimson Glow Valstrax is capable of firing a large draconic beam akin to that of Nakarkos.
    • During this state, its wings become a weak point.
    • Toppling the Crimson Glow Valstrax during this state by any means (breaking the front legs, stunning it, etc) will revert its wings back to normal.
  • An Urgent Quest featuring the Crimson Glow Valstrax is unlocked once the hunter has defeated Narwa the Allmother and reached HR100.
    • After this Urgent Quest is completed, a new Crimson Glow Valstrax quest is unlocked and automatically completed which randomizes the location where the monster is fought.
  • Crimson Glow Valstrax is available to fight in Master Rank upon reaching MR 70.
    • However, the monster can be fought and slain in Event Quests, and if it appears in another target monster's A5* Anomaly Investigation (Unstable Environment) even before MR 70 is reached.
    • After this Urgent Quest is completed, a new Crimson Glow Valstrax quest is unlocked and automatically completed which randomizes the location where the monster is fought.
    • At Master Rank, Crimson Glow Valstrax gains the ability to use its wing blades while in the air and can combo into a slam with them.
    • Additionally, after firing a beam from its wings, Crimson Glow Valstrax can redirect the beam and fire it a second time.
    • Crimson Glow Valstrax will appear in battles against Amatsu if Utsushi is not the current follower, ambushing it at a certain health threshold.
