Duremudira is an Elder Dragon introduced in Monster Hunter Frontier G6.

Physiology

Duremudira has the bodily structure typical of most Elder Dragons. Its body is covered in dark blue and grey scales and plates, along with some icy white stripes throughout; spikes in the aforementioned colors are present on each forelimb. Its head has glowing eyes that are orange with yellow pupils, two pairs of horns that resemble bat wings, and two spikes protruding forwards from the lower jaw. Its wings are rather oddly structured, as the phalanges are practically connected to one another most of the time; the membranes are icy white with a blue line pattern that makes them resemble glass panes (except the part on the humerus part of the wings, which are a grayish blue instead). The wings also have extensions which feature three scythe-like spines on each wing. As for Duremudira’s tail, it is very long with a line of curved back spines running along most of the underside. It ends in a dark gray set of five spears of varying size which are connected to one another at a few points. Duremudira also has an aura of cold air radiating around it.

When in its second phase, ice will completely cover the claws, and sharp ice shards will appear on the head and neck. In addition, red vein patterns appear throughout the body; the wings are spread a bit more and the aura becomes absent.

In its third phase, most of its body becomes stained with poison, becoming a pinkish red; certain parts like the horns turn a reddish orange color; the eyes and vein patterns turn white; the ice on its claws and head increase in size; ice spikes and coverings become present on the wings, and the tail spears get icy extensions.

Abilities

Duremudira is very strong and agile, attacking with claw swipes, claws slams, tail swipes, and powerful charge attacks as it darts around the room with great agility. Due to its power over ice, it possesses the ability to breathe out dozens of small shards of ice, powerful beams of freezing wind, and create sharp ice shards of varying sizes all around it. Usually by using its tail, it can even encase itself in huge shells of ice and crash down onto hunters from above, or freeze the entire room and shatter it with a single slam.

When greatly angered, Duremudira will start utilizing its deadly poison in conjunction with its ice, which can corrode armor and cut through its opponents’ defenses. It will also utilize poisonous beams, poisonous ice shards, and all throughout the phase, small puddles will periodically appear randomly around the area and form spikes after a few seconds.

Lying in wait in the 2nd District of the Sky Corridor is a Duremudira with a hidden form. After seemingly collapsing from its wounds, it unleashes power and speed far beyond those from the 1st District. It boasts larger beam attacks, increased speed, claw slams followed by powerful spin attacks, the poisonous puddles replaced by large spikes of frozen poison, chained slam attacks, and more.

Behavior

Duremudira is highly aggressive, and will immediately attack those who encroach on its territory. Once it sees an intruder, it will not stop attacking until they are dead, even sealing off its chamber with ice to prevent their escape,

Habitat

Duremudira has only been found inhabiting the ruinous Sky Corridor, acting as an especially dangerous guard against intruders.

Notes

General Notes

  • Upon initial release, Duremudira was originally an unclassified monster, with its classification never being specified in-game. Duremudira's classification as an Elder Dragon was later confirmed on the official website for Monster Hunter Frontier G[1].
    • Even before this confirmation, Sigils that targeted Elder Dragons always functioned as if Duremudira was one.
  • Its head, wings and tail can be broken.
  • When the Duremudira in the 2nd District "dies", the screen will proceed to freeze over with poison ice before shattering, revealing the room to now be covered in poison and ice, with the Duremudira now lying in wait above, it will then crash down in a huge ice shell, shattering it and revealing its third form.
  • Duremudira was voted 2nd place in the 2018 poll for Frontier's Top Monster.[2]
  • Duremudira's name likely comes from Dule, an archaic English word that refers to an ambiguous state of suffering, as well as Madira, which in Sanskrit, can refer to the intoxicating effects of alcohol. His localized name would likely be Dulemadira.
