"A phylogenetic tree or evolutionary tree is a branching diagram or "tree" showing the evolutionary relationships among various biological species or other entities—their phylogeny (/faɪˈlɒdʒəni/)—based upon similarities and differences in their physical or genetic characteristics. All life on Earth is part of a single phylogenetic tree, indicating common ancestry." - Phylogenetic Tree
The following list below are Ecological Tree Plots (Japanese 生態樹型図) of most monsters in the Monster Hunter Series.
Initial Notes:
This information is mostly in Japanese as many source materials are only available in Japanese. As such, there are unofficial rough translations of certain Japanese terms in this article.
Recent updates to the Ecological Tree (as of the book モンスターハンターライズ 公式設定資料集 百竜災禍秘録 (Monster Hunter Rise, Official Setting Document Collection - Rampage Disaster's Secrets), December 2021) now include all of the monsters from Monster Hunter to Monster Hunter Rise.
Although this is only ever shown in the Hunter's Encyclopedias and other Monster Hunter Ecological Books, Subspecies, Rare Species, Variants, and Deviants fall under the same sections, orders, and families as their normal monster counterparts.[1][2]
The only ones that haven't appeared in any recent ones are Garutoto, Canopus, Bajirisu, and the Origin Wyvern.
Monster Hunter Frontier and Monster Hunter Online don't have a phylogenetic tree for their monsters, however, some monsters are mentioned to have some relations to ones encountered in the Main Series.
Before the discovery of Akantor, all Flying Wyverns originally fell under a different Suborder known as Beast Feet (Japanese 獣脚亜目) before they were reclassified to Wyvern Feet (Japanese 竜盤亜目).[17]
