Unclassified Monsters are monsters whose classification has not been officially revealed by CAPCOM. The "Unclassified Monster" type is not an official canon class in the Monster Hunter series, but the absence of an explicit classification.

- Unknown (Black Flying Wyvern) and Duremudira are monsters who were previously Unclassified upon introduction, only to be later explicitly categorized as an in-universe Monster Type.
- Although Mi Ru's classification was never explicitly confirmed, the Flying Wyvern Slayer of Sigil Skill are effective for it, so can be confirmed that it is the Flying Wyvern.
- Monsters whose classification are explicitly unknown within the world of Monster Hunter, such as Gore Magala and Estrellian are considered ??? monsters.
- There is big controversy and confusion about the Laviente brethren being Elder Dragons, due to their sheer size and strength. However, its Japanese title is not "龍" (Dragon) but "竜" (Wyvern), which may prove that it is not an Elder Dragon.
- Nergigante was only recently classified as an Elder Dragon by the Guild, and was previously considered to be Unclassified.
