“ | A pure creature, lingering to its heart’s content. It looks docile and innocent at first glance. But if it’s disturbed from its peaceful desires… Pure anger becomes pure strength. As its power grows, so does its ire. Getting in its way is risking life and limb. It’s already too late to realize… That this creature’s desires are not to be trifled with. | „ | |
- Garangolm, Wandering Colossus |
Garangolm is a Fanged Beast first introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.
Appearance
Garangolm is a gigantic Fanged Beast similar in appearance to a gorilla. The dorsal side is covered in thick, rigid green and brown thick shell, and its head is protected by the same shell, forming a giant crown and chin plate. Curiously, Garangolm has a thick, long tail that ends in prongs.
Abilities
Aside from its incredible strength and hard body, Garangolm emits a sap-like fluid from its body that promotes plant growth. This causes various plants to grow all over its body. It can also use the sap it emits to harden its body or the soil around it. It has been observed covering its arms in both moss and lava as a daily routine. It uses the arms for different purposes. It uses the left arm to to scrape and dig up both grass and fish. While the right arm is used to remove and dirt and debris off its back.
When enraged, Garangolm will thrust its arms into the earth to form gauntlet-like masses, semi-molten rock on it's right arm whilst its left will be covered in mossy growths that drip water, dealing Fireblight and Waterblight respectively. The explosion from the right arm can send Garangolm high into the air, and sometimes also leave behind Blast clouds. Once its health drops below a certain threshold, it will cover both arms with larger quantities of molten rock and moss, while also getting some on its face. During this time it gains a couple of new attacks, including the ability to cause a steam explosion in front of itself after attempting to send hunters skyward with a head swing.
Behavior
Garangolm are rather peaceful and docile creatures that are usually seen sleeping or traveling around its territory. However, it will turn hostile the moment it gets attacked or provoked. The more angry Garangolm gets, the stronger it becomes. It won't stop until the foe is dead or its rage is settled. Often, Garangolm will have to deal with powerful monsters like Lunagaron for territories, often resulting in Turf Wars.
Habitat
Garangolm is mainly found in the swamps of Elgado's Citadel, but can also be found wandering in the Flooded Forest as well.

In-Game Description
Notes
General Notes
- Garangolm's name may be a combination of garang, which is an Indonesian/Malay word meaning "fierce" or "very strong", and a corruption of the word golem.
- Garangolm is considered one of the "Three Lords" of Elgado, alongside Malzeno and Lunagaron.
- Garangolm is based upon Frankenstein's monster.[2] It also has some resemblance to the Golem of Jewish folklore.
- Garangolm's use of a different element on each side of its body is somewhat reminiscent of Eruzerion.
- According to their concept art, the prongs of a Garangolm's tail are for tilling soil, after which the plowed soil is eaten by the monster.
- Garangolm was voted 159th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[3]
Monster Hunter Rise
- The large boulder it pulls out of the ground cannot deal blights, however.
- Garangolm is one of the few monsters capable of an altered Anomaly Burst, which will expand the explosion of the afflicted specimen's ultimate attack. It too can only be performed near the Garangolm's death.
