Gold Rathian are female Flying Wyverns and a Rare Species of Rathian introduced in Monster Hunter G.
Physiology
Her body is covered in an exceptionally strong golden shell, making it difficult to attack without the Hunter's weapon bouncing off. She is slightly larger than the average Rathian.
Abilities
The Gold Rathian is weakest to the Thunder Element and is, like all Rathians, capable of inflicting the Poison ailment and shooting Fireballs. She is able to wield her flame sac with greater control and ferocity than the common species.
Behavior
Gold Rathian must be very aggressive to survive, accounting for their heightened aggression compared to the standard and pink subspecies.
Habitat
Gold Rathian have been most commonly spotted at Ancient Tower, Misty Peaks and less commonly the Swamps. However, it is safe to assume that the Gold Rathian could survive in the same environments as the green and pink species, being much tougher.
In Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Gold Rathian can be found in the Guiding Lands and the Elder's Recess.
Other Non-Subspecies Forms
Hardcore (HC) Gold Rathian
Though Henshu Gold Rathian already had the appearance of the HC Gold Rathian to note the difference between the normal and HC/Specific Individual version that its eyes are colored bright blue, a darker gold wings, More and larger spikes and a longer "Chin" spike.

Notes
General Notes
- Gold Rathian is able to link its backflip attack to a fireball.
- If Gold Rathian is knocked off her feet, she can do a surprise backflip while getting up.
- Gold Rathian's roar requires HG Earplugs to block.
Monster Hunter Freedom
- It can be unlocked by killing a minimum of 30 Rathian (Subspecies do count).
Monster Hunter Freedom 2
- Gold Rathian, along with Silver Rathalos, can be unlocked by killing 100 Flying Wyverns (Bird Wyverns and Piscine do not count).
- Remobra may or may not count towards that Wyvern total.
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
- Players can also unlock the Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos by clearing Nekoht's 8* Quests, or importing a save file of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 with both of the monsters already unlocked.
- For the first time, Gold Rathian required High Grade Earplugs to block her roar.
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
- Both Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos can be unlocked by killing 100 Wyverns (excluding Bird Wyverns).
- The Gold Rathian's head is no longer a weak point for any form of damage; her back and wings are now her weakest parts.
- This was changed in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, as it is considered an individual species.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
- Her back can now be broken.
- When the Gold Rathian's head is broken, her head becomes a weakspot to weapons and weapons no longer bounce off her head, though her wings are still her weakest point.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
- Any quest that involve Gold Rathian are MR-restricted at MR 70 minimum to participate in. This prevents players from obtaining the monster's materials prior from being able to access it at the Guiding Lands.
- Gold Rathian can be found in the Guiding Lands after raising the Wildspire or Volcanic regions to level 6. After encountering her for the first time, she can also be fought in Investigations in the Elder's Recess, along with an Optional Quest in the same area with a Silver Rathalos.
- In the Guiding Lands, Tempered Gold Rathian can only be fought by raising the Wildspire Region level to 7.
- Gold Rathian will never leave area 9 or 14 of the Guiding Lands depending on whether she spawned in the Wildspire or Volcanic region or area 15 of the Elder's Recess unless summoned by Silver Rathalos.
- Gold Rathian can inflict Noxious Poison with her backflip attacks. This can be prevented by severing her tail.
- Gold Rathian is able to enter a new mode in which she becomes "wreathed in hellfire", signified by her head, chest, and a bit of the neck and wings chest glowing red or blue. She can be knocked out of this state by dealing enough damage to her head.
- When wreathed in hellfire, she is able to spit blue fireballs that leave large patches of burning ground where they hit. Standing in those patches will rapidly reduce health, although this can be alleviated by wearing the Fireproof Mantle.
- In this state, she is able to perform a larger variety of attacks with her tail and has a massive blue fire ball attack.
Monster Hunter Frontier
- HC Gold Rathian's roar requires Super HG Earplugs to block.
Monster Hunter Explore
- Gold Rathian backflips always inflict Noxious Poison.
