Gold Rathian is a female Flying Wyvern and a Rare Species of Rathian introduced in Monster Hunter G.

Physiology[]

As a Rathian rare species, she retains the standard characteristics of the species, although she has some notable differences. Her body is covered in an exceptionally strong golden shell from head to tail; this also makes it difficult to attack without the Hunter's weapon bouncing off. It is notably slightly larger than the average Rathian. After activating her “Incandescent” state, her head, chest, and the area between the neck and wings are covered in blue flames.

Abilities[]

Gold Rathian is weakest to the Thunder Element and, like all Rathians, is capable of inflicting the Poison ailment and shooting fireballs. It is able to wield its flame sac with greater control and ferocity than the common species. It can enter the Incandescent state where its attacks become even more aggressive.

Behavior[]

Gold Rathian must be very aggressive to survive, accounting for its heightened aggression compared to the common species and subspecies.

Habitat[]

Gold Rathian has most commonly been spotted at the Ancient Tower, Misty Peaks and less commonly the swamps. However, it is safe to assume that Gold Rathian could survive in the same environments as the other two Rathians, being much tougher.

In Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Gold Rathian can be found in the Guiding Lands and the Elder's Recess.

Other Non-Subspecies Forms[]

Hardcore (HC) Gold Rathian[]

Though Henshu Gold Rathian already had the appearance of the HC Gold Rathian to note the difference between the normal and HC/Specific Individual version that its eyes are colored bright blue, a darker gold wings, More and larger spikes and a longer "Chin" spike.

Hunting Tips[]

Gold Rathian will use their tail to greater effect compared to standard Rathian, so watch out as their tail strikes will come at you from different ranges and trajectories. When in their Incandescent state, their tail attacks grow fiercer, but their head also becomes weaker. Constant attacks to the head will knock them out of this enraged state, so focus your attacks there as you fight!

Notes[]

General Notes

  • Gold Rathian is able to link her backflip attack to a fireball.
  • If Gold Rathian is knocked off her feet, she can do a surprise backflip while getting up.
  • Gold Rathian's roar requires HG Earplugs to block.
  • In the Fifth Generation, Gold Rathian can inflict Noxious Poison with her backflip attacks. This can be prevented by severing her tail.
  • The Fifth Generation also introduces the Incandescent state, in which Gold Rathian becomes wreathed in hellfire, signified by her head, chest, and a bit of her neck and wings glowing red or blue. She can be knocked out of this state by dealing enough damage to her head.
    • When in the Incandescent state, she is able to spit blue fireballs that leave large patches of burning ground where they hit. Standing in these patches will rapidly reduce health.
    • In this state, she is able to perform a larger variety of attacks with her tail.
  • Gold Rathian was voted 113th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]

Monster Hunter Freedom

  • Gold Rathian can be unlocked by killing a minimum of 30 Rathian (Subspecies do count).
  • Like with other subspecies present, killing a Gold Rathian counts as killing a Rathian, since subspecies and rare species weren’t considered their own monsters.
    • This was changed in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate onwards, as it is now considered an individual species.

  • Monster Hunter Freedom 2

  • Gold Rathian, along with Silver Rathalos, can be unlocked by killing 100 Flying Wyverns (Bird Wyverns and Piscine Wyverns do not count).
    • Remobra may or may not count towards that total of wyverns.

  • Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

  • Players can also unlock Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos by clearing Nekoht's 8* Quests, or importing a save file of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 with both of the monsters already unlocked.
  • For the first time, Gold Rathian required High Grade Earplugs to block its roar.

  • Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

  • Both Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos can be unlocked by killing 100 Wyverns (excluding Bird Wyverns).
  • The Gold Rathian's head is no longer a weak point for any form of damage; her back and wings are now her weakest parts.

  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

  • The back can now be broken.
  • Once the head is broken, it becomes a weak spot and weapons no longer bounce off it. However, the wings are still the monster’s weakest point.

  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

  • Any quest that involves Gold Rathian are MR-restricted at MR 70 minimum to participate in. This prevents players from obtaining the monster's materials prior from being able to access it at the Guiding Lands.
  • Gold Rathian can be found in the Guiding Lands after raising the Wildspire or Volcanic regions to level 6. After encountering her for the first time, it can also be fought in Investigations in the Elder's Recess, along with an Optional Quest in the same area with a Silver Rathalos.
  • In the Guiding Lands, Tempered Gold Rathian can only be fought by raising the Wildspire Region level to 7.
  • Gold Rathian will never leave area 9 or 14 of the Guiding Lands depending on whether it spawned in the Wildspire or Volcanic region or area 15 of the Elder's Recess unless summoned by Silver Rathalos.
  • Gold Rathian's fireball explosion is now bigger compared to the other variation, even in the normal state.

  • Monster Hunter Rise

  • Gold Rathian was added to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak in the first Title Update along with Lucent Nargacuga, Seething Bazelgeuse, and Silver Rathalos on August 10, 2022.
  • Gold Rathian is unlocked at MR 10, alongside Amatsu, Chaotic Gore Magala, Flaming Espinas, Gold Rathian, Primordial Malzeno, Seething Bazelgeuse, Silver Rathalos, Velkhana, Violet Mizutsune, and Anomaly Quests.
    • Some of these additions specifically require other quest completions to unlock, Primordial Malzeno requiring Amatsu to be defeated, both Rath Rare Species requiring Seething Bazelgeuse's defeat, and Violet Mizutsune requring Flaming Espinas' defeat. The player must speak to Arena Master Arlow to accept both quests.
  • Gold Rathian's ‘Hellfire’ state was renamed to its ‘Incandescent’ state to disassociate itself from Hellfireblight.
  • Gold Rathian gains a new triple fireball combo, in which she can perform a tail spin between the second and third fireball.
  • Gold Rathian gains new tail attacks shared by Dreadqueen and Apex Rathian.
  • When in its Incandescent state, Gold Rathian gains new fire based attacks like a fast fire ball it can launch after performing other attacks.

  • Monster Hunter Frontier

  • HC Gold Rathian's roar requires Super HG Earplugs to block.

  • Monster Hunter Explore

  • Gold Rathian backflips always inflict Noxious Poison.

  • Monster Hunter Now

  • TBA
