Great Thunderbug

Great Thunderbugs are Neopterons introduced in Monster Hunter 2.

Physiology[]

Despite their name, each Great Thunderbug is actually a colony of Thunderbugs, and their electricity causes them to appear as spheres of blue light.

Abilities[]

Great Thunderbugs are known to change into two different colors: blue and reddish-white. When in their normal and docile state, they are blue, but when attempting to attack, the blue hue becomes a fierce, glowing reddish-white; if they strike a hunter in this state they will cause notable damage. Eyewitness reports also claim that some Elder Dragons are hosts to them, providing a safe environment in which to mature. A famous example of this is the Yama Tsukami. However, the Great Thunderbugs released by Yama Tsukami are unique in that they can explode.

Habitat[]

Great Thunderbugs are naturally found in the Tower and Jungle.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 / Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
	An abnormally large Thunderbug raised inside the body of an elder dragon and known to inhabit the same areas as its former host, its electrical attack is deadly. This bug has various uses as material for crafting weapons and items.
Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
	Thunderbugs can be used to make a variety of weapons and items, but these ones have grown to a monstrous size inside an elder dragon. They are imbued with formidable electric powers. They congregate at night and in caves where the sunlight doesn't reach.
Monster Hunter Stories
	Gigantic Thunderbugs that are raised in the bellies of Elder Dragons. Electrifyingly lethal.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
	These gigantic Thunderbugs are raised in the bellies of Elder Dragons, and are electrifyingly lethal. Their presence indicates that the area used to be an Elder Dragon's territory.
Monster Hunter Frontier
	Abnormally large Thunderbugs raised inside of certain Elder Dragons. Often found in the same areas as their former hosts. Their electric attacks are deadly. Despite this, they have many uses in crafting.

Unlike most other Neopterons, their bodies cannot be carved, but instead drop a shiny material upon death.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Great Thunderbugs are listed and behave as Endemic Life in this game, making them the first monsters to be no longer be classified as one.

They will paralyse any monster that comes into contact with them, excluding those immune to Thunder element.

Monster Hunter Stories 2

Like most small monsters, Great Thunderbugs cannot be Monsties.

Great Thunderbugs are Speed type monsters.

Great Thunderbugs can show up as partners to Zinogre, who can summon more bugs in combat as reinforcements.

In this title, Great Thunderbugs are more green than blue, but still turn red when they attack.
