When fighting the Lagiacrus, you might notice it behaves similiarly to the Royal Ludroth. You can use this to your advantage by copying the tactics need to fight the Royal Ludroth. The only obvious difference to that the Lagiacrus can spit balls of lightning forward for as far as he wants, he doesn't charge around spitting lightning either, and he can surround himself with energy like the Khezu on 2G/Unite.

If you're a bit of a noob here are some helpful tips to fighting it.

This guide however, is clearly intended with the fact that you know how to fight a Royal Ludroth (After all, how can you fight a Lagiacrus if you didn't fight Royal Ludroth?)

1) [On Land/Blademaster Only] Always attack his tail.

If you notice, everytime he begins an attack, he always turns towards you and pauses for a tiny bit (Unless he is charging around or backing up). When you see him turning, run around him and attack his tail (around or behind his hind legs and back) When he turns towards you again, roll to your side and resume attacking. The tail is where the armor is weaker, and your safe from most of his attacks unless you aren't paying attention, or hitting his side instead of his tail. The only time your not safe is when he swings his tail around, and that doesn't incur a lot of damage.

2) [Underwater/Blademaster Only] Attack the chest.

It sounds counterintuitive but you don't have much choice but too. If you try attacking the tail underwater you'll find its usually imbedded in the floor or flying past you at a high velocities. he floats still for quite a while after he does the turning slash attack, which is weak and leaves him open.Try to stay a little lower than his chest to aviod his arms and subsquent attacks. Slice him once or twice and then dodge out from under him. In my experience, dodging left has a higher success rate than dodging in other directions. If you aren't fast you might get hit by his coilling attack, so becareful. You can hit the tail, but not often. The best opportunity to do this is when he is doing the Khezu body shock move.

3) [Blademaster Only] About Items

Try to only use your whetstone when you believe you have enough time to do it. A good way to do that is when Lagiacrus is paying attention to Cha Cha or your teammate. I've seen too many people attempt to sharpen their weapons and get killed by the lightning ball of doom. Another tactic is to run out of the area and use your items before running back into the fray. It's not cowardly, and the monster should still be there when you come back.

4) [In the Sea] Lagiacrus Special Lightning Force Field that looks like Khezu's shock attack from 2G/Unite.

You'll notice that the Lagiacrus has a glowing back. You'll also notice that when you try to attack it, sometimes you'll get a shocking experience from it's body-wide lightning field that it will use when it realizes your attacking it. Thats your cue to either A) Heal/Sharpen/Prep Evil weapon of mass destruction. B) Shoot it with your bowgun. It might be useful to pop some Stormsender Berries to nullify the shock status and boost your resistance to the lightning element.

5) [In the Sea/Blademasters Only] Attacking left-forward arm area

In the sea, if you attack this generic spot, you can avoid a good deal of attacks. When it coills up and does a 180, you'll be strangely untouched. You can resume your attacks by turning around.

[Lance Guide]

Before trying out the lance on Lagiacrus I thought he was really hard. Primarily the issue for me was his charge attacks. You'll notice that even if he misses you, you might be immobilized by the wake of his charge. This can leave you open to follow-up attacks and other nasty business you do not want to deal with. This is not an issue with the lance. In fact I could easily start farming him when I started using it. So grab your shield and lance, it's time to kill Lagiacrus.

First of all, here's a list of his attacks. I cannot of the top of my head recall what type of a signs he'll give to every attack, but if you study his movement for a bit you'll learn quickly enough.

-Turn swipe: If you're close and at Lagiacrus' side he'll do a swipe at you as he turns. It does very little damage and usually doesn't even knock you down.

-Bite+tail slam combo: When he does this he'll bite to HIS left, and then his tail will follow the momentum of the move and slam anything to HIS right. What does this mean? Basically, if you're positioned to the right of him with your guard down he'll take a chomp out of you. Also if you're at his left you'll be slammed by the tail. After he finishes this move he will be facing backwards from his orignial position. Combatting this move is easy enough. Whenever I fight, I try to hug his chest, somewhat above HIS left front leg/arm. When he begins the bite attack, make sure you've got your guard up just in case, you'll follow along his movement without taking any damage leaving the beast open to a few upward stabs to his chest, or if you turn, to his face.

-Tail smash: He basically smashes his tail forwards, giving anything in front a whalloping. Fairly easy to avoid since you're gonna be keeping your shield up at all times. If you stick at the same place as with his bite+slam combo you'll often be pushed to the side without taking damage. Use this to your advantage.

-Charge: Sometimes Lagiacrus moves off to charge you. Just bring your shield up, there's no way to dodge it smoothly if you have your weapon unsheathed. If you have it sheathed move quickly to the side followed by a dodge. Sometimes when you just move quickly you'll get caught in the wake of the charge. This immobilizes you for a while which can have devastating consequences. Usually you can get a stab or two at his tail after a charge, and if you're positioned well you can stab where his face will be when he turns around. A good tip for hunting any monster is usually to learn how the beast moves given a specific situation. With many beasts you can get several hits in while it is turning, and then a few more well place when it has turned. This can lead to knockouts which means tons of damage! Be careful though, get to greedy and you'll feel the pain.

-Body slam: I think it's more common that he does this in rage mode. His body will be electrified and then he does an attack with a wide area of effect forwards. If your guard is up it won't be much of a problem.

-Big charge: At times Lagiacrus will speed off into the distance and stops. This usually means he'll do the big charge. You'll notice it's coming if he coils his body. When he does this, it is followed by a pretty nasty charge. It has the same general dangers of the normal charge except it does more brutal damage. Keep your guard up to be safe. And don't let go too soon, he'll sometimes follow up with another one.

-Lightning ball: If his mouth starts glowing with lightning and he arches his head, it means he'll do his lightning ball. It's basically a ball of electricity heading for you, but hopefully at cha-cha. Guarding deflects it, but he'll sometimes spit two. So be careful. I have never experienced him spitting three, so let your guard down after the second to gather stamina in case he charges. The lightning balls will consume a fair chunk of your stamina so be cautious.

-Lightning charge: If his back spikes start glowing and making electricity noise he'll release a discharge of lightning. The normal one doesn't have too long a range and can be blocked if needed. It's better to use the dodge to pop back a bit, because after the discharge he'll be open for a few lance thrusts.

-Big lightning charge: If his back spikes glow more intensely he can sometimes do his big discharge. The sign that this attack is coming is pretty tell-tale, but I can't recall exactly how it looks. But if you expect it's coming, use the dodge a few times to position a fair bit away from him. You can't block this one and it has a fairly long range so be careful not to be caught up in it. If you want an extra hit here you can time a lance charge(pressing the + on the classic controller) and get a thrust in right after he stops. Careful to do it too early or you feel the pain.

He'll do similar moves on land like underwater. I found it to be easier to go for his tail when he was on land.

General tips for fighting with the lance:

-If in doubt, keep your guard up.

-More often than not, you're closer than you think. A combo of forward thrusts can reach the tail, back or face oftentimes. Use your range to your advantage whenever you can!

-BUT don't be greedy! Being careless sees you punished. Between his attacks I usually go for a two-hit combo to be sure I get the block ready. I only go for the full three when I know he won't have time to counter!

-The lance charge is really useful for travelling! If you need to close in quickly press the +(on classic controller setting 1) to begin speeding forward. You can do this to reposition or get yourself close enough to do damage. Sheathing and then speed swimming takes a lot of time!

Gear:

-Armor: Any thunder resistant is good. I used Barroth my first time.

-Lance: Any good raw damage will do. I had an easy time with Rampart+

-Gear and preparation:

Eat grain+grain before the quest to get stamina and some thunder resistance, it is very useful.

A pitfall trap is very useful for when he is on land. It'll keep him down for a long while. Use this time to break his horns by positioning yourself by his face and thrusting upwards at it.

Max potion for full health is very nice but not a must. But if it's your first time be sure to pack as many potions as you can. Whetstones also prevent your attacks on his back spikes from bouncing so make sure you don't run out if your lance has low sharpness.

These are the things I found useful for hunting Lagiacrus, hope they serve you well too! Happy hunting!

[Great Sword Guide]

When fighting this monster with a GS you should take care in how many attacks you do on him at once, mistakes that ive been making is trying to get one more hit in but it usually ends up him speeding away to lunge at you or just hits you where you swing. When you attack with your GS it takes a great deal of time to recover and start moving again so make sure not to be over confident, this guy can kill you fast.

His weakest point for the sword is his chest/belly. Its good to attack it whether hes on land or in the water, but if you are somewhat at the beginning of the fight and you are on land; attack his tail. GS is perfect for tail cutting if you keep doing the vertical slash and also the tail is a real pain when hes in the water so making it a lesser range is for the best. Ive found that attacking his tail underwater with the GS is pretty difficult since he uses it to swim. (Tail is extra carve too)

For Lagiacrus's moves I will use Hanban's move list above and make changes for GS.

Moves-

-Turn swipe: If you're at his side he will do a small attack with his hand, dont be afraid of this attack, be afraid of what he will do next.

-Bite+tail slam combo: When he does this stay near the belly/chest he will wrap around you and you will take no damage from him, great position for you too destroy his chest or if your at low health hold down the block button just in case.

-Tail smash: Huge range move, but only in front of him, if you dodge out of the way or get pushed by the current to his left or right hes vunerable for attack.

-Charge: When he swims away beware, this usually means hes coming back head first. If you have your sword out and hes coming just block. If your sword is sheathed then dodge out of the way and get a hit or two on him.

-Body slam: When he does this block or dodge, it leaves him open for a well placed slash.

-Big charge: When you see him swim away and then he pauses for a bit and you see coils showing, try to dodge his charge as best as you can and then block afterwards because he might follow it up with a electric field.

-Lightning ball: When you see electricty in his mouth it means hes gonna spit it at you, fairly easy move to dodge, he might do two in a row.

-Lightning charge: If his back spikes start glowing and making noises, he is going to make a field of electricty, pretty easy to dodge unless your in the middle of hitting him but if your in that position hold down the block button and hope you block in time.

-Big lightning charge: If the spikes on his back are more immense than usual and it looks like hes charging a big move up. He is. Try to get out of there as soon as possible and watch with horror at the death you just escaped.

Tips-

-Do NOT be cocky, one bad swing and it could be all over.

-Blocking all those attacks will blunt your GS pretty quickly, be sure to have lots of whetstones and I recommend getting the Sharpener skill.

-Be sure to get full potions and mega potions. Mabye some storm seeds or might seeds.

-If its your first time killing or capturing this deadly creature you might wanna use a voucher if you have one.

-If you need to break his horns I reccomend a pitfall trap and doing the sword slap, its impact damage so it can stun and can break certain parts better.

Gear-

Armor- Thunder resistent would be a wise choice.

Weapon- Raw damage does great, also high sharpness level, atleast green.

A Paralysis attribute also comes in handy, as it allows for mre access to the tail and a longer period to attack. The Azi Dahaka SnS is a great weapon for this.

I hope this is helpful to some people, also thanks Hanban for this great guide setup.
