In-Game Description[]

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
A rare species of Nargacuga whose behavior and habitat are shrouded in mystery. Legend claims it appears on foggy nights at a remote and well-hidden location, but the veracity of this claim is still being researched by the guild.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
Nargacuga clad in radiant fur and lives in fog-shrouded lands. Lucent Nargacuga hide in the night's fog and moonlight, springing assaults with neither shape nor shadow. Astounding agility and marvelous mobility makes them difficult to capture with the naked eye. The throng of toxic tailspikes they launch makes these wyverns perilous beasts indeed.
Threat Level (危険度): ★★★★★★★★★

Notes[]

General Notes

  • Lucent Nargacuga has a much harder head and chest than its cousins. Only weapons with Purple sharpness can successfully cut through the head and chest without bouncing off, unless the player has the skill "Mind's Eye" equipped.
    • However, when enraged, both head and chest do not reflect weapons with sharpness of Blue or better.
  • The spikes from its tail inflict Poison.
  • Unlike Chameleos, Lucent Nargacuga is capable of rendering itself completely invisible while it performs its "Strafe" or "Back Jump"-maneuver, except for the red eye trails during Rage Mode.
  • The fumes from Dung Bombs and Felvine Bombs are retained when Lucent Nargacuga is invisible, so hitting one with a Dung Bomb or Felvine Bomb will help players locating it when it is invisible.
  • While not a concrete fact, a common Japanese nickname for this monster is “Lunaruga (ルナルガ, Runaruga)”.
  • Lucent Nargacuga was voted 54th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]
    • This is also the highest placement of any Rare Species monster in the poll.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

  • Lucent Nargacuga can be unlocked after reaching HR 40.
  • Lucent Nargacuga's roar has a much wider range than its other two counterparts, but still only requires standard earplugs to block.
  • Lucent Nargacuga can be carved 4 times.

  • Monster Hunter Rise

  • Lucent Nargacuga was added to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak in the first Title Update along with Seething Bazelgeuse, Silver Rathalos, and Gold Rathian on August 10, 2022.
  • Lucent Nargacuga is fought after reaching MR10 and defeating Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian.
  • Lucent Nargacuga's head now takes significantly more damage, yields 3 body carves, and also no longer has a golden underbelly, but a silvery one instead.
  • Dealing enough damage to Lucent Nargacuga's tail while its tailspikes are raised will remove them, temporarily preventing it from firing those tailspikes during attacks until being raised again.
    • Lucent Nargacuga loses the ability to fire its tailspikes while doing its double spin attack.
  • Lucent Nargacuga gains a new attack where after roaring, it moves to the side before spinning rapidly, looking as if it has become a miniature tornado.
  • Lucent Nargacuga gains an attack used by Nargacuga in Monster Hunter Frontier, in which it twirls its tail in the air and creates a rain of poisonous spikes. These spikes can rain down in either a straight line or a circle surrounding Lucent Nargacuga.
  • Lucent Nargacuga gains a new attack where it turns invisible while leaping around the arena trying to confuse players about its location. It will eventually reappear and perform a powerful backflip tail slam. If hit, the hunter will become stunned.
  • The Lucent Nargacuga fought in the 6★ Hub Quest "Hazard: The Hazy Shadow", has increased stats and an altered moveset:
    • It can fire spikes even without its tailspikes raised; with the tailspikes raised, certain attacks will gain spike projectiles.
    • Its poison spike attacks are more varied and dangerous, and cover a wider area.
    • It can slam its tail down up to three times in a row.
    • Moves extremely fast when invisibly leaping around the arena.
  • Aside from being secondary targets in Anomaly Investigations, it is one of the few monsters, alongside Violet Mizutsune and Velkhana, to not be affected by the Qurios in anyway.

  • Monster Hunter Explore

  • Although the game assigned ice element to Lucent Nargacuga, it doesn't possess any elemental attack.
