Treasure Quests are offered by Treshi who stands in the top left corner of the Gathering Hall. Unlike regular Quests you can only use Items found in the Supply Box or found in the field. On the one hand you can't use any Items from your Inventory and will start without any of them, but on the other hand only Items from the Reward Section can be taken outside of Treasure Hunts.
There are some Rules for Treasure Hunts:
The Time limit is always 20 Minutes per Quest, they can only be accepted online and unlike the Sequels must started with two Players. It is possible to deactivate WLAN or Shut the PSP down during the quest to play Solo tough.
The biggest Difference are the Items you can find in the field. Hunting Tools like Potions and Barrel Bombs may be found inside of Monsters or Gathering Spots. The most important Items you can find are the Treasures. If an Item is a Treasure it is indicated with a yellow "Treasure" lettering in the description. Each Treasure gives Points if you take it back to the Camp and give it to Treshi. Pts are ranged from 100 Points to 20.000 Points. For the most time the rarer an Item the more Points it will net. Some Egglike-Materials must be carried back to the Camp to count, so be aware of Small Monsters like the Preys or Vespoids. Every non-Egglike-Material are capped at 10 Units per Material. If your Inventory is full and you want to pick up an Egglike-Material, it will count as being discarded reducing the Chance of getting Materials from a Spot.
In every Location are 5 super rare Materials that will show up in your Guild Card if redeemed for Points. Most of these Items are only obtained in a Single Area or/and has a really low rate to get. Some are so rare, that only be obtained once per Quest if at all, like Egglike-Materials that have carried back to the Camp.
After the Quest you will get Rewards based of your total Score. The golden rule, the more Points accumulated the better rewards you will get. After this the total Score of both Players are compared. The combined Score is the Total Score and the High Score of ever Location will show up on your Guild Card. If the Players have a total score of over 45.000 Points there will appear a Golden Crown next to the Score.
Every Location inhabits a Velocidrome, a Gendrome or an Iodrome as well as another giant Monster like the Rathalos. When a Drome is slain it will despawn and a bigger version will respawn after a short time. It is possible to slay 10 Dromes during one quest, the last Drome will always have a Gold Crown Size. Other big monsters will never despawn once slain, so be aware if you want to cut the tail you have only one chance.
Some Areas and Gathering spots are obstructed by Giant Boulders. Only the grey Boulders can be destroyed. To destroy a Boulder you can use 2 Lg Barrel Bombs/+, 7 Sm Barrel Bombs or by hitting it very often. Boulders often obstruct Areas and Spots with high value Treasures or useful Hunting Tools.
