“ | Bipedal creatures resembling cats, known for their dark hair. More curious than Felynes and possessed by kleptomania, Melynxes take what they steal back to their dens. | „ | |
Melynx are Lynians introduced in Monster Hunter.
Physiology
Melynx are noted for their black fur and the ability to talk in human language, as well as do human activities like their fellow Lynian subspecies called the Felynes.
Abilities
Though seldom seen in human villages compared to Felynes, Melynx sometimes take job opportunities mostly as Felyne Chefs and/or Felyne Comrades. Felyne Chefs cook food for their customer to support them in their adventures by temporarily enhancing their abilities. Felyne Comrades assist their masters throughout quests with skills to make hunting easier and gather more items than usual.
Wild Melynx appear in groups and, when they spot a hunter in their area, they attempt to steal items. Once they obtain an item, they run away and dig underground, never to be encountered again. The stolen items do mysteriously appear in a "base" that will appear in different places in each area. (3rd gen and on).
Behavior
They live in harmony with the lighter-toned species of Lynian, the Felynes. The Melynx and Felynes seem to be hostile towards the other Lynian Species, the Shakalaka, as they are never seen living in the same area together, though all three species live in the same environments.

Notes
General Notes
- In most games, a Melynx will target a hunter as soon as they get in its radius, wait for 4~5 seconds, then charge at the hunter to steal items.
- It takes being in a Melynx’ general presence for around 15~20 seconds, directly bumping into them, or attacking them to tempt them to attack and steal in Monster Hunter Rise, somewhat longer than any other game.
- A Melynx makes a cameo in the prologue of Episode 11 in Asura's Wrath, crawling while overlooking a hot spring.
