Hello! We have an awesome partnership with Capcom for Pax East 2020. We have reserved slots for our active wiki editors at "Monster Hunter Festa" Saturday February 29th. I'm the person who originally claimed scarred garuga wasn't a variant, but I recently discovered that my reason for thinking this seems to have been a bug and a coincedense.
when I got the "seen it all" achievement, I think I hadn't actually killed 30 variants. the total I counted was like 27 or something. but, if I counted kills and captures sepparately and did not include scarred garuga, I got exactly 30. including garuga would be over 30. this is why I originally thourht that, but it turned out to be a coincedense, and I recently realised that captures count towards the left number too, basically confirming that I was wrong.
therefore, I think the line about it not counting towards the achievement can be removed, because not only do many people claim otherwise, it was added because I made a mistake without knowing.
So... IIRC in MHO he was called Espinas and some Frontier merchandise named it Espinas too.
On the other hand we had this Mega-Man collab in Frontier where we could read Espinath (Subspecies) instead...
Maybe one of them is official or maybe both of them are not! I think is a similar situation of "Valphalk" before getting localized.
Yeah, MHO didn't give Espinas/Espinath an explicit English name (IIRC, the only Frontier monsters it did give one to (that differs from the current/previous Wikia romanization) are Hypnocatrice Rare Species/Silver Hypnocatrice, and Dyuragaua/Dhuragaua (The MHO website is down, so I can't link the page itself, but this is the next-best thing)). Espinas and Espinath are both official translations from Frontier, as far as I'm aware.
I'm assumed that since the Wikia usually uses the latest official romanization and updates when necessary (like the aforementioned Hypno Rare Species, along with Raviente>Laviente and Dondruma>Dundorma), that it would be appropriate to update mentions of Espinas' name as well, but since "Espinas" is a lot more iconic and renaming it could make the page harder to find, I don't wan't to do anything before an admin decides how it should be handled.
By the way, according to MHO, Espin is in the same family as Diablos and Gravios, so I was wondering if I should include those two in Espin's related monsters section and vice-versa, or if I should avoid including lore details mentioned by MHO on mainseries and Frontier pages?
I'm Garrett and I'm a community manager here at Fandom. The Gaming community team at Fandom would like to reward users like you who have really made extraordinary contributions to our platform. To do that I'll need to email you directly to talk details. Is it ok with you if we contact you at the email address you have listed on file for your account?
No problem! Honestly, I've been meaning to notify one of the admins about it, but since everyone's been busy with World and, later, Iceborne, I held off on it. However, since Frontier is shutting down, I should probably inform an admin about it before the Youtube channel is deleted.
