Notes

  • Monster Hunter Generations uses the same game engine as Monster Hunter 4G.
  • Palicoes will be returning, both as assistance and as a playable character.
    • The playable Palicoes, called Nyanta (a play on the "Nya" [the Japanese word for the sound a cat makes] and "Hanta" [romaji for Hunter]), have an array of unique support role items, are capable of burrowing underground and out of harm's way, gather significantly faster, have no stamina, and can resurrect twice before carting, but are not as strong as human hunters.
  • Each Weapon Type will feature 4 unique moveset "Hunting Styles" (狩猟スタイル), similar to the Skill Ranks from Monster Hunter Frontier G8, and will also feature several "Hunting Techniques" (狩技), similar to the Finishers from Monster Hunter Online.
    • Originally, a new weapon type was going to be put into MHX but this was replaced by the "Hunting Styles" and "Hunter Arts".
    • "Hunting Styles" is a system that was made to bring out more possibilities from each weapon. Hunting Styles come in four forms.
    • Hunter Arts must be filled with a gauge from attacking before they can be used. More Arts are unlocked as the player completes quests. All styles can use Hunter Arts.
    • The four Hunting styles are:
      • Guild Style: The standard, balanced hunting style used in all Monster Hunter games. Can equip up to two Hunter Arts.
      • Aerial Style: Evading into any creature, whether it be a monster or another hunter, or other physical items such as bombs, will have the hunter leap into the air. Gains new attacks in the air at the cost of some grounded ones. Can equip only one Hunter Art.
      • Adept Style: Evading the split second before being hit will have the hunter perform a leap that covers great distance and has significant invincibility frames, being able to counterattack and string combos once the leap ends. Blocking the split second before being hit allows the hunter to counterattack and string combos without delay. Certain moves cannot be triggered from standard, and requires evading/blocking. Can equip only one Hunter Art.
      • Striker Style: Has significantly altered combos and changes to charge speed. Can equip up to three Hunter Arts.
  • Underwater Battles from Monster Hunter 3, as well as Frenzied Monsters, Apex Monsters, Weapon Honing, and Guild Quests from Monster Hunter 4, are not returning to Monster Hunter X. Despite the removal of frenzied monsters, Gore Magala and Shagaru Magala appear in Monster Hunter X.
  • Mounting from Monster Hunter 4 is returning. Terrain from maps in the previous games have included more ledges for mounting. However, mounting threshold has increased, making it generally harder to mount than in MH4, and monsters no longer receive any damage or receive status effects from any source as they are mounted; in turn, other hunter's attacks can no longer force dismount, and their attacks will assist in building up the monster's knockdown gauge.
  • Deviant monsters are introduced. Although they appear similar to Subspecies, Deviants have a unique title and have completely new attacks rather than alterations to the normal monster's existing attacks and/or more aggressive behaviors. Deviants only appear in their exclusive quests and require special tickets to access their quests.
  • Weapon upgrading has been revamped. Instead of requiring a specific list of items needed to upgrade, any sort of item in a category listed in the upgrade can be used, drastically reducing the need to grind for a rare specific item. Weapons now have levels that raise attack and elemental attack when raised, and accumulating enough levels will upgrade the weapon. Higher rarity items accumulates more level experience.
    • Armors also now use the new level system.
  • The game is being directed by Yasunori Ichinose, who previously directed all the other games from the Portable series.
    • This game features the main villages and main areas from each Portable game as well.
  • If save data from MH Diary: Poka Poka Felyne Village DX or Monster Hunter 4 G is found on the SD Card, a bonus is granted.
  • The Four Flagships Monsters of MHGen are nicknamed the Fated Four by the developers.
    • For the Japanese version, they are nicknamed the Elite Four.
  • Monster Hunter Generations is a spin-off game for the 4th Generation.[1]
