As the story snakes along, you’ll encounter a wealth of side quests and hours of challenging turn-based battles where you must coordinate monster skills, rider skills and enemy attack patterns. The rock-paper-scissors combat system is a series first, a breath of fresh air for veterans and newcomers alike. It’s the perfect entry point into the popular Monster Hunter universe and a game unlike anything else in the series! You can even battle other players online, locally, or via the StreetPass™ feature!

Monster Hunter Stories is a role-playing video game developed and published by Capcom. It is a spin-off title set within the Monster Hunter series. The game released in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console on October 8, 2016, on Mobile devices later on December 4, 2017, and on the Apple Arcade under the name Monster Hunter Stories+ (same content, different app icon, monthly subscription instead of full price) on August 6, 2021. A port with full voice acting, Japan-exclusive monsters, and a gallery mode was revealed on a Nintendo Direct, and will be released for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Steam June 14, 2024.

The 3DS (and likely Switch) game features support for Amiibo figurines, with a first set launching alongside the game, and a second set launching two months later.

The game was followed with its own anime titled Monster Hunter Stories: Ride On, a Japan-only mobile spinoff known as Monster Hunter Riders (which has terminated service), and a full sequel named Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
