In-Game Information
Wild pigs covered in moss and fungus. Sometimes you will even find mushrooms growing on them. Their meat is known as a delicacy. Though normally docile, they will charge you if angered.
Taxonomy
Mosswine fall in the catagory of herbivorous Primatius. They are in the same genus as bullfango, although far less agressive.
Habitat Range
Mosswine can be observed in any climate that supports a large amount of plantlife. They are most commonly found in the jungle, forest & hills, and Sea of Trees. Given their small stature, they most likely need areas of dense vegitation to hide them from larger predators. The appear to have almost no adeptations to survive in extreme hot or cold areas, and that lack of grassees and shrubs in those areas would offer little sustanance for Mosswine.
Ecological Niche
A lowly herbivore. Mosswine serve as an easy food source to predators and a constant nuisance to hunters. Their trademark moss and mushrooms growing on their back is both natural camoflouge and an emergency food source.
Biological Adaptations
Mosswine possess a short, stout nose that has a keen sense of smell and helps dig up mushrooms and roots. Mosswine's only form of self defence is the boney armored plate on their forehead. They will ram enemies as a last resort, and although it causes little actual damage, is a source of endless discontent by hunters. Mosswine also grow moss and mushrooms on their backs to better hide them from predators. Mosswine can run quickly when they need to, but are often viewed as quite slow.
Behavior
Mosswine are gentle creatures by nature. Males are typically loners, but family groups will band together, if only for strength in numbers. Mosswine are also very timid, running from large predators. They do, however, possess one agressive bone in their body. Mosswine will sometimes take to ramming an enemy in a fruitless defensive tactic. Mosswine young will instinctively hide in dense brush at the first sign of danger. Mosswine will squeal loudly as a form of communication.
