Purple Gypceros is a Bird Wyvern and a Subspecies of Gypceros introduced in Monster Hunter G.

Physiology

As the name suggests, rather than gray and pink as seen on a common Gypceros, the Purple Gypceros has a vivid purple hide and green tail.

Abilities

This Subspecies is notably more resiliant than its original counterpart, and can produce more powerful poison.

Behavior

Purple Gypceros is known to use its flashing attack more frequently in battle, and will chain other attacks directly into it.

Habitat

Purple Gypceros are usually found in swamps and marshlands, although can occasionally be seen in Jungle. Being omnivorous, they prefer warm and humid locations where insects and mushrooms are plentiful and water is abundant.

Hard Core (HC) Purple Gypceros

HC Purple Gypceros has enlarged talons and wing claws, as well as larger teeth and a more pointed crystal-organ on its head. Its wings also have a more vibrant, pinkish coloration.

In terms of new attacks, HC Purple Gypceros can spit three large poison balls in a triangle formation; fly quickly into the air and slam down, before immediately following up with a flash; lunge forward and spin around rapidly, striking out with its body and extendable tail.

General Notes

• Purple Gypceros have a breakable crest located in the head, which they pound against their hard nose to ignite a tremendous flash, dizzying everything in the immediate area.
• Breaking the crystal on its head can result in Lightcrystal in the Quest Rewards.
  • Breaking this crystal stops the Purple Gypceros from using its flash attack. After breaking the crystal, Purple Gypceros will try flashing unsuccessfully.
• Its tail can stretch longer that its initial size because of its bizarre rubbery hide.
• Purple Gypceros is immune to Shock Traps due to its Rubbery Hide, so when trapping is required, bring Pitfall Traps.
• It can also steal an item when it does its pecking move.
• Purple Gypceros was voted 221st place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2

In high rank, if it tries to flash after the crest has been broken, it will release a burst of poisonous gas instead.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

It can become infected by the Frenzy Virus.

Purple Gypceros can immediately flash the hunter after a peck attack.

When low on stamina it wil fail to spit poison and will fall after charging.

When enraged, it starts drooling poison so the pecking move can also poison the Hunter.

In G-Rank, it gets a few new attacks:

• It can spit a poison ball at the air and it lands on the ground many seconds later.
• After clicking the crest like usual, it can keep the crest charge for it to unleash the flash later.

Monster Hunter Frontier

Purple Gypceros can be captured and used as a pet. Perhaps unsurprisingly it eats poison mushrooms and shiny objects.

This monster is unlocked at Level 35.
