Monster Hunter Wiki

Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax is an Elder Dragon and Risen variant of Crimson Glow Valstrax first introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

Physiology[]

Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax' appearance is noticeably different from a standard Valstrax and Variant counterpart, with most of its body darkened with certain parts (their heads and torsos) retaining their metallic grey coloring. At the tip of the spikes and wing exhaust are wounds resembling burns, which have a bright orange glow upon entering its Risen state.

Abilities[]

This version of Crimson Glow Valstrax has overcome being afflicted by the Qurio and has become more powerful as a result. In addition to its heightened physical abilities and speed, its dragon energy becomes more unstable, allowing it to unleash violent explosive attacks that cover a wider area, use enhanced wing strikes that leave more explosive dragon energy behind, and focus all their power into one wing for a devastating blow. When dive-bombing targets in the Risen state, they will prelude the dive with an aerial bombardment of dragon energy blasts to pin down the target before crashing into them at full force.

Behavior[]

The already violent Elder Dragon becomes more aggressive than ever before, due to its already rampant energy being enhanced further by the Qurio. It is considered a greater threat than even Crimson Glow Valstrax. It is one of the strongest Risen Elder Dragons, alongside Risen Shagaru Magala.

In-Game Description[]

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax are elder dragons that have found a way to overcome their affliction. By suppressing the Qurio virus, they have gained great strength and new abilities. Their abundance of dragon energy has granted them greater agility, and even more devastating explosive powers. Very few will be able to withstand their ferocious attacks. When their anger reaches its peak, they'll enter into their Risen state and their body will begin to glow.
Threat Level (危険度): ★★★★★★★★★★

Notes[]

General Notes

  • Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax was added to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak in the fourth Title Update along with Velkhana on February 7, 2023.
  • Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax is unlocked at MR 160.
  • Its Japanese Name 傀異克服バルファルク can be translated into "Risen Valstrax". However, the Quest Info in Japanese refers it as 傀異克服奇しき赫耀のバルファルク, which could be translated into "Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax".
  • Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax is the first and only Risen Elder Dragons to be based on a Variant instead of base Monster, and as such, is the second instance of a monster being a variation of a variation, with the first one being Apex Tidal Najarala from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
  • Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax was voted 33rd place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]

Monster Hunter Rise

  • While Risen, it gains Valstrax' attack in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate where it runs and jumps, then shreds anything below with its claw-wings while leaving behind Dragon energy.
  • If its chest is attacked enough while it is taking in air, the Dragon energy inside will detonate, knocking it over and dropping a shiny.
    • However, it will do this before its Risen transformation, and is impossible to detonate or stagger out of, even while attacking via Wyvern Riding.
  • While using its standard Ambush attack like Crimson Glow Valstrax, its Ambush attack changes while Risen, where it barrages the land with explosive Dragon blasts, then charges in like normal.
    • Strangely, the projectiles can aim at a target in another area (a Hunter in Area 1 while shooting projectiles from Area 10), but it will still charge down at whatever area Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax was already in.
  • The "Hazard" Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax found in its Anomaly Research quest and high-level Anomaly Investigations has an altered moveset:
    • It can extend any of its wing slam combos with an uppercut attack.
    • Executes its double rocket dash attack much faster.
    • Its explosive flip attack leaves behind lingering explosive patches, and will be immediately followed up by another attack.
    • Its aerial wing stabs will now stab twice in succession, even if it uses the follow-up wing slam after.
    • Its wing spin attack leaves behind a circle of explosive patches.
    • Its basic wing stab attack has extended reach, and it can quickly side-hop to reposition in between stabs.
    • After charging up and spinning towards a target with its ultimate attack, it now uses two consecutive charged wing stabs.
