Hear me, o flames of those devoured.
Restless spirits, doomed to serve a creature of malice.
Your will is connected, no matter how faint.
And although you are destined to fade before long,
I implore you: before making your way to purgatory...
You must bear witness...to the power of your own souls, manifested as relentless evil.
- Scorned Magnamalo, Ultimate Malice

Scorned Magnamalo are Fanged Wyverns and Variants of Magnamalo first introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.

Physiology

Scorned Magnamalo mostly resembles a normal Magnamalo, but has elongated, oddly serrated arm-blades, larger fangs, and more jagged back shells that will unfold when sufficiently enraged in place of the normal variant's spikes. It is missing its right horn and eye, and its body is shrouded in volatile pink Hellfire at all times. Its body is now a darker purple color with glowing red scars all over its body, similar to the appearance of the Apex Monsters found in Kamura.

Abilities

Thanks to years of hatred and battle scars, the Scorned Magnamalo boasts superior physicality and has perfected its Hellfire, allowing it to use more complex and wide-reaching explosive attacks. In particular, it wields its elongated arm-blades to deadly effect, and can concentrate Hellfire gas into the blades to unleash fierce combo slashes or extend the reach of its swings. Once its rage reaches its peak, it can enter a new "Raging Hellfire" state, causing some of its Hellfire to turn red and inflict Dragonblight, and causing it to become even more aggressive.

Behavior

Scorned Magnamalo is much more aggressive and violent than even a regular Magnamalo, and is now powerful enough to take down many apex predators and fight evenly with, if not overpower Elder Dragons. True to its title of Ultimate Malice, this vindictive monster will attack anything that invades its territory, and appears to actively seek out dangerous monsters to battle and devour. It is highly feared, especially by Kamura Village, and hunters are sent to hunt it whenever it shows up.

Notes

General Notes

  • Its head, back, and both armblades can be broken, and its tail severed.
    • Unlike the regular Magnamalo, Scorned Magnamalo's back can be broken regardless of its rage state.
    • When its tail is severed, some Hellfire will trickle from it for a while, then fade to normal.
  • Scorned Magnamalo is the first Variant of a Fanged Wyvern.
  • Male Magnamalo with broken horns are considered unfit for attracting mates and will focus solely on expanding their territory, implying that the Scorned Magnamalo's heightened abilities and aggression were developed as a result.
  • It is implied that the Scorned Magnamalo fought in the Urgent Quest "Back with a Vengeance" is the same specimen that attacked and almost destroyed Kamura 50 years ago.
  • Scorned Magnamalo are similar to Deviants due to being implied to be Magnamalo altered by overcoming adverse conditions and constant battle.
  • Scorned Magnamalo's Japanese name roughly translates to "Echoing Grudge Magnamalo".
  • Scorned Magnamalo was voted 50th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]

Monster Hunter Rise

  • Scorned Magnamalo is unlocked at MR 100.
    • However, the monster can be fought and slain in Event Quests, and if it appears in another target monster's A5* Anomaly Investigation (Unstable Environment) even before MR 100 is reached.
  • Scorned Magnamalo is the last monster to unlock in the base DLC game of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak before Title Updates.
  • It is one of the monsters that can show up and engage Narwa the Allmother.
    • However, it seems to be much less common than the other monsters that can show up, and initially appears as "? ? ? ?" when it spawns in the area.
  • Scorned Magnamalo's default state is similar to the fully enraged state of a normal Magnamalo, complete with using its "ultimate" dive bomb attack immediately when engaged in battle.
    • As the fight progresses, it will unveil its own state, Raging Hellfire State (Phase 1). It extends its armblades and focuses its Hellfire into them, igniting them while extinguishing the Hellfire on the other parts of its body.
    • When at low health, it will enter its Raging Hellfire State (Phase 2) by standing up and unleashing an explosion of red Hellfire that inflicts Dragonblight, before causing its back shells to unfold and both its arms and tail to ignite.
  • Scorned Magnamalo will always start the encounter with its ultimate triangle charge attack.
    • In the 6★ Event Quest "Daily Practice", it will immediately enter its Raging Hellfire State (Phase 1) instead.
  • Despite being a Variant, which tend to heighten a monster's control over its natural element instead of gaining a new element, Scorned Magnamalo gains the ability to inflict Dragonblight. It's possible that all Scorned Magnamalos feed on elder dragons that resulted to their new ability.
