The Shanthien is a species of the Elder Dragon and makes it first introduction in Monster Hunter Frontier G. Shanthien is searched for, researched and hunted using the Large Exploration Ship owned by the Hunter Guild and Mezeporuta's Caravan team, to which it lays siege out of territorial behavior. It has a body structure similar to Lagiacrus, with gray scales, jade colored crystal-like organs on its body, two small wing-like crests, and blue fur running down its spine, along the arms and from the tail. It has the ability to levitate by collecting, charging and releasing air particles from the jade glowing parts of its body. Shanthien is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Frontier G.
Greatly feared and admired Shanthien has become quite popular and is one of the strongest monsters in the series close to a point of overkill at its strongest.
Shanthien is first encountered as a hunters urgent quest to enter G rank. Hunters have to repel one as research for the guild.
Shanthien appears fragile at first and slow but as hunters anger the monster twice some of its true power is revealed as it begins the 3rd rage stage flying around at incredible speed surrounded by thunder as its wings release particles like fire out of a rocket. It will continue endlessly moving at this speed taking quick sweeps at the ship in a attempt to hit hunters until stopped with a loud sound like the ships gong or hooked with the ballista binder.
Upon angering it even further it will almost completely destroy the exploration ship with thunder and fire causing it to crash into a unknown volcanic zone as the area was not mapped to the guilds knowledge. In this state hunters will face the true horror and power that is Shanthien to the death. This is where its most famed move begins, it will land smashing the ground bellow, roar causing lava to burst in random and directly under all hunters causing them to be launched in the air followed by their body's being shocked mid air directly by lightning commonly resulting in instant death and instant quest failure to all who do not expect as it targets all hunters in the area at once its extremely hard to evade if not close to Shanthien.
Being one of the current two monsters with the leveling system known as Conquest Wars that last over a week with a maximum level of 5001. Shanthien already able to use its deadly lava thunder combo at level 1 will only get more deadly the more one hunts as their level rises the Shanthien in the quest gets more power, health and attacks often catching hunters off guard with attacks like homing water beams and more unexpected powers. Shanthien can eventually hit a point in levels so strong even 2000 defense can become near worthless.

Notes
- Despite being an Elder Dragon, Shanthien has a body structure highly similar to Leviathans, such as Lagiacrus or Agnaktor, and even uses some of the same physical attacks as them when battling on the airship's floor.
- Like Amatsumagatsuchi, it is often followed by stormy weather.
- Shanthien can use thunder element, in a manner similar to a Lagiacrus.
- In Chinese, lightning (闪电) is pronounced Shǎndiàn.
- It's "wings" become much larger when in flight.
- When angered, Shanthien starts a violent storm and begins flying in midair around the airship.
- When first released, Shanthien could only be fought and repelled on the Large Exploration Ship, as an introduction to G-Rank. In Monster Hunter Frontier G2, if enough damage is dealt Shanthien will crash the airship into a fiery volcano area, where it can be fought to the death.
- Shanthien's power will increase in this volcanic area, and the blue hairs on its body begin to glow yellow.
- Sonic Bombs are effective against Shanthien: They can be used to make it fall to the ground. If it's fought in the volcano, they will also remove its flame aura.
- One of the points of bothering to level up in Conquest War quests is the rewards for reaching higher and higher levels are needed to upgrade G rank equipment.
- Much like Amatsumagatsuchi has a jade like organ that grants it's powers, Shanthien has one as well and is a 1% carve only item.
