Silver Rathalos is a male Flying Wyvern and a Rare Species of Rathalos introduced in Monster Hunter G.
Physiology[]
As a Rathalos rare species, he retains the standard characteristics of the species, although he has some differences. This Rare Species features a shining silver carapace from head to tail with black markings along the spine. He is notably slightly larger than the average Rathalos. After activating its “Incandescent” state, his head, chest, and the area between the neck and wings are lit with blue flames.
Abilities[]
He frequently barrages hunters with his triple fireball and aerial claw attacks. When on ground, he tends to use far more tail whips than bites and will charge hunters less frequently. Silver Rathalos also appears to go into a state of rage more often than his red or blue counterparts. He can enter the Incandescent state where his attacks becomes even more aggressive.
Behavior[]
Silver Rathalos is much more dangerous than the common species. He prefers aerial attacks to ground-based ones.
Habitat[]
He is rarely found in the Swamp, Old Swamp, or Forest and Hills, but can most often be seen at the top of ancient Towers. The Hunters Guild goes out searching for Silver Rathalos in other lands so they can be hunted in special events, where they're placed in Arena and pitted against Hunters.
Other Non-Subspecies Forms[]
Hardcore (HC) Silver Rathalos[]

HC Silver Rathalos has enlarged spikes running along its spine, as well as larger and slightly discolored wing claws. Its tail spikes have a faint reddish hue.
In terms of behavior, it can now shoot five fireballs in very rapid succession whilst on the ground, as well 'charge up' a larger, slow-moving blast of fire. This explosive attack is often followed up with more fireballs. In addition, Silver Rathalos can now fly around any Hunters in a large circle pattern, shooting fireballs at them as it soars. Before landing after this attack, it can produce another slow-moving but large ball of flame; it will then swoop through and trigger the fiery orb to explode.

Notes[]
General Notes
- A unique trait of this monster is that its head is extremely weak to impact (Hammer, Hunting Horn), while its wings are very weak to slash (Greatsword, Longsword, Dual Sword, etc.).
- Its roar requires HG Earplugs to block.
- Like Gold Rathian, its movement speed increases considerably when enraged, even more than the normal and Azure Rathalos.
- In the Fifth Generation, Silver Rathalos can enter the "Incandescent state", a mode in which it becomes "wreathed in hellfire" - this state is signified by its head, chest and part of its wings glowing with red and blue flames. This state can be dispelled by dealing enough damage to its head.
- While in the Incandescent state, Silver Rathalos gains several new aerial attacks, such as sweeping kicks, longer combos and a multiple flame barrage.
- In this state, Silver Rathalos' fireballs and flame breath leave behind burning trails that rapidly drain the health of hunters.
- Silver Rathalos was voted 74th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]
Monster Hunter Freedom
- It can be unlocked by killing a minimum of 30 Rathalos (subspecies do count).
Monster Hunter Freedom 2
- Along with Gold Rathian, it can only be unlocked by killing 100 Wyverns, excluding Bird Wyverns, e.g. Kut-Ku, Gypceros, Velocidrome etc. This requirement is also the same in MHP3rd.
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
- In Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, players can also unlock the Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos by clearing Nekoht's 8* Quests.
- Its roar, unlike the original and Azure Rathalos, can only be blocked with the High Grade Earplug skill.
- He will do the flying back fireball and also fly into the air to perform his single or triple blast.
Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
- Its head is highly resistant to both cut and impact damage, unlike in previous appearances, in which its head was vulnerable to impact damage. It also requires white sharpness in order to avoid weapons bouncing off it.
- When fatigued, Silver Rathalos will regain stamina by preying on Gargwa.
- Its back and head shine with luminosity.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
- Silver Rathalos and Gold Rathian are fought in the Tower. They can only be fought at Hunter Rank 8 or above, by unlocking the 7* Guild quests.
- Its head is extremely tough, being impenetrable by even purple sharpness.
- It gains a new attack in which it quickly launches a huge fireball at the ground which explodes in a large area of effect.
- It can also perform its poison talon grab or its three-fireball shot multiple times before landing
- When fatigued, there is nowhere for it to regain stamina, and so it will remain fatigued until it rages again.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
- The back of Silver Rathalos can now be broken.
- In G-rank, Silver Rathalos can shoot a huge fireball at the ground which explodes in a large AoE after doing a talon attack.
- Once the head is broken, it becomes a weak spot and weapons no longer bounce off it. However, the wings are still the monster’s weakest point.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
- Any quest that involves Silver Rathalos are MR-restricted at MR 70 minimum to participate in. This prevents players from getting the monster's materials prior from being able to unlock it at the Guiding Lands.
- Silver Rathalos can be found in the Guiding Lands by raising the Coral or Volcanic regions to level 6. Additionally, it will start appearing in investigations in the Elder's Recess after encountering it for the first time.
- Tempered Silver Rathalos can appear in the Guiding Lands after raising the Coral region's level to 7.
- Silver Rathalos will not leave area 11 or 14 of the Guiding Lands depending on whether it spawned in the Coral or Volcanic region or area 15 the Elder's Recess unless summoned by Gold Rathian.
- Silver Rathalos has some new ground moves compared to its other species, such as a 360º tail spin, successive flaming bites, and quickly shooting a fireball to the ground in front of him while jumping back.
- Silver Rathalos might summon Gold Rathian to its area if they're both present in the Guiding Lands.
Monster Hunter Rise
- Silver Rathalos was added to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak in the first Title Update along with Gold Rathian, Lucent Nargacuga and Seething Bazelgeuse on August 10, 2022.
- Silver Rathalos is unlocked at MR 10, alongside Amatsu, Chaotic Gore Magala, Flaming Espinas, Gold Rathian, Primordial Malzeno, Seething Bazelgeuse, Velkhana, Violet Mizutsune, and Anomaly Quests.
- Some of these additions specifically require other quest completions to unlock, Primordial Malzeno requiring Amatsu to be defeated, both Rath Rare Species requiring Seething Bazelgeuse's defeat, and Violet Mizutsune requring Flaming Espinas' defeat. The player must speak to Arena Master Arlow to accept both quests.
- Silver Rathalos' ‘hellfire’ state was renamed to its ‘Incandescent’ state to disassociate itself from Hellfireblight.
- Silver Rathalos can combo more attacks than in previous games. Some examples include being able to perform two claw swipes in a row, being able to quickly fire three balls in a row while in its Incandescent state, and it can send two rows of erupting fire plumes while in its Incandescent state.
- Silver Rathalos now has an attack where it shoots several molten blue rocks that will explode after a few seconds, finished by the bigger blue fireball with bigger explosion, similar to Dreadking Rathalos.
- Unlike in Iceborne, Silver Rathalos' head becomes a weak point when in the Incandescent state.
Monster Hunter Frontier
- HC Silver Rathalos' roar requires Super HG Earplugs to block.
