Poison

Icon: Status: Description:
StatusEffect05 StatusEffect-Poison
Poison
A common status effect that causes a gradual loss of health over a period of time. Once the Poison has worn off, the red portion of the health bar will recover slowly. Depending on the monster and the rank of the quest, the Poison can drain the health bar at a faster rate than normal. The duration of Poison can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. Poison is indicated visually by purple bubbles emitted by the victim.

Paralysis

Icon: Status: Description:
StatusEffect29 StatusEffect-Para
Stun/Paralysis
麻痺
A dreaded status effect that completely immobilizes for a certain period of time, leaving the victim helpless. Upon being Paralyzed, the Hunter will fall down on their face (or remain motionless in an arched position underwater) and yellow sparks of lightning will be seen passing through their body. The duration of Paralysis can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. There is nothing a Hunter can do but to wait for the Paralysis to wear off or for certain attacks to send them flying. This status effect had been previously known as "Stun" in the early Monster Hunter games, but has recently been referred to as "Paralysis" to better differentiate it from the ailment caused by Flash Bombs and Impact-type attacks.

Sleep

Icon: Status: Description:
StatusEffect01 StatusEffect-Sleep
MH3G-Status Effect Sleep
Sleep
睡眠
Some monsters have the potential to put Hunters to Sleep. It is similar to Paralysis in that it leaves the Hunter unable to do anything. However, damage taken when asleep is greatly increased and will end the status after one hit. The duration of Sleep can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. Starting in Monster Hunter 3 on, one does not immediately fall asleep when Sleep is inflicted. Instead, the Hunter will become drowsy allowing an Energy Drink to be used if the player is fast enough, negating the effect before falling asleep. Any non-Sleep inducing monster attack will wake up the Hunter again, and also those from fellow Hunters or Felyne/Shakalaka comrades. Leaving the area also appears to rid the Hunter of the status, but it's uncommon to recieve this whilst close enough to an exit.

Stun

Icon: Status: Description:
StatusEffect04 StatusEffect-KO
Stun/KO
気絶
Occurs when a Hunter receives many attacks in a short period of time, but some monster attacks are guaranteed to cause it if they hit. When Stunned/Knocked Out, movement, attacking and items are completely disabled. The visual indication is a ring of yellow stars spinning above the affected target's head. All monsters can inflict Stun by means of repeated physical attacks, but some can inflict it immediately by emitting an extremely bright flash of light, or another special technique. When a monster is inflicted with it by use of a Flash Bomb, it attacks randomly until the effect wears off and if inflicted by repeated Impact-type attacks (such as Hammer or Hunting Horn), the monster is completely immobilized for a short while. If a Flash Bomb is used then the monster is KO'd by an Impact hit, more stars circle around its head than normal but the effect duration is the same. The duration of the stun can be increased, decreased, or negated altogether with an appropriate skill. By rotating the analog stick used for movement in a circular motion and tapping the evasion button, the player can snap out of it on their own.

Blastblight

Icon: Status: Description:
Status Effect-Slimeblight MH3U Icon Status Effect-Blastblight MH4 Icon
Status Effect-Blastblight MHW Icon
Slimeblight/Blastblight
爆破やられ
Known as Slimeblight in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Blastblight in Monster Hunter 4 onwards, this ailment will cover the Hunter in slime or explosive powder. Movement isn't hindered, but Hunters affected by it suffer a damaging explosion if struck by a monster, or if the status isn't rid of quickly by rolling a few times. Even blocked attacks can inflict this status. When affected, all blocking attempts will fail so it is advised to pay attention to the status icons next to the Hunter's name.

When used against monsters, different colored effects will signify how many more hits are needed to trigger an explosion. When enough status is applied, an explosion occurs, dealing a fixed amount of damage on whatever part the triggering hit struck. The buildup then resets and the monster's tolerance increases like with the main status effects, making the next explosion a bit more difficult to trigger. Of note is that this effect is not affected by Status Attack Up, but instead the Bombardier armor skill, which makes applying the status faster but does not directly increase damage. Despite this, Blastblight is still a status effect, and is in turn affected by the Crit Status armor skill.

The Bombardier armor skill grants a 1.2 multiplier to the status' potency. This isn't seen on the weapon's profile itself, but can be seen on the Status screen under the Hunter's raw Attack power. Obtaining the Felyne Pyro skill provides a 1.1 multiplier. The effects of Bombardier and Felyne Pyro can stack.

Covers the Hunter in bubbles. Upon the initial application, it grants the effects of Evasion+1 and Constitution+1, but being hit with more bubbles will cause the Hunter to slip and slide helplessly, unable to attack and with significantly reduced control over their movements.

In Monster Hunter Rise, the effect was changed slightly. Hunters no longer slip and slide uncontrollably, only sliding after movement instead. Hunters can also attack normally while being covered in bubbles.

Fatigue is indicated visually by green clouds rising from the Hunter. In Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, only Chameleos' spit attack can inflict this status. Frenzy Virus
狂竜ウイルス
The Hunter becomes infected with a virus. It requires time to incubate, represented by a purple bar filling up below the Hunter's on-screen name. If the bar fills completely, the virus negates natural health recovery, meaning that the Hunter takes full damage from attacks without being able to heal back half of it. Additionally, all attacks which would cause the condition will deal extra damage while the virus is active. However, if the Hunter inflicts enough damage on a monster whilst the virus is incubating, they will grow stronger instead, gaining a 15% Affinity boost, as well as an immunity to reinfection for a short period of time.

It is of note that a hunter receives damage over time whilst in a "virus pool". This damage can be quite significant, if prolonged.

Crystallization

Icon: Status: Description:
StatusEffect-Crystal
Status Effect-Crystallization MHOL Icon

Crystallization
結晶
Inflicted when you are hit by the crystallizing beam and powder of an Akura Vashimu/Jebia, Mi Ru, or Garuba Daora crystal attacks.

In Frontier, Hunters will find themselves covered in crystals which must be shaken off to perform normally. Similarly to 'Fatigue', it also depletes the Hunter's Stamina to the lowest level. If the crystals aren't shaken off in time, they will explode and cause damage.

In Online, the effects of Crystallization were significantly weakened. Although the crystals can no longer be shaken off without the aid of another hunter, the status no longer affects the afflicted's stamina, movement, or combat abilities. The only effect of the status is to damage the hunter and flinch them upon its expiration.

Elemental Effects[]

From Monster Hunter 3 onward, certain monster attacks can inflict Hunters with status effects known collectively as Blights. The higher the Element Resistance on your armor against the corresponding Element, the less likely the Blight will be inflicted upon being hit. A low Element Resistance means the Blight effect will be more potent and proportionally more damage will be received from the attack. The Severe versions of Blights will last longer, and they can all be negated with the skill Blightproof. Shakalakas or Felyne Comrades cannot be affected by Blights.
