  • So while looking up more info on Monster Hunter Stories, I came upon this.

    • This looks really interesting. Not to mention that that Astalos looks amazing. Will it be completely CG, or only the Monsters?

That image is literally just Astalos promo art from MHGen, not something actually from the movie.

    • I'm looking forward to this. I know movies based on video games typically aren't that good, but I'm still hyped to see some monsters on the big screen.

Tbh, warcraft movie was fine. Suffered from bad writing, but looked great and was an enjoyable watch. If this film gets anywhere near that, I'll be surprised and very happy.

Honestly, I kinda liked the Warcraft Movie, only video game movie I actually liked...

Hopefully they don't screw up the MH Movie...

    • I bet everyone a Rathalos Plate the story is gonna suck, but it will be great to see the monsters on the big screen.

    • I am completely sure that it will be garbage...but, like, good garbage. Garbage I'd want to watch!

    • Yeah, I´m not really feeling hopeful towards this. As it has been said here before, movies based on video games are rarely good, Sure, I might be wrong, but...

MH doesn´t have much story to begin with, true, so just how badly screwed up the story might be is another debate for another day. I´m leaning as well on the possibility that the writing is going to leave a lot to be desired but we will get some spectacular effects. Even though special effects alone can´t really save a really badly written movie. That was my main concern with this year´s remake of The Jungle Book: awesome effects from trailer one but I was expecting the story to be lacking, especially since it was based on the animated 60´s movie rather than the actual book (yes, I much prefer Kipling´s tone to the animated adaptation). But that movie actually turned out to be surprisingly good for me, and better than the version it was remaking.

With all this being said, however... I´m definitely going to watch it, regardless of the reviews. :P Even if it turns out to not be as good as the games, I just won´t pass up the chance of seeing the monsters on the theaters.

    • That Zinogre looks amazing, but the image is too big!

        Loading editor
    • Now imagine it on a gigantic screen in 3D, with the howl blasting through the theater's speakers!

I'll bet this is going to turn out just like a Godzilla movie - no one's gonna care if the story is sh*t, we're just going to see the monsters in action. XD

    • Make the movie about the Ancient Civilization and Fatalis, even if that is a bad idea.

    • The CGI monsters in the intros for the actual games has always been great. Remember the ecology videos? All of them have been amazing quality, fit for the silver screen. Story doesn't matter, but they can do anything with it and it could be really interesting. If the movie has one full fledged monster fight, I'll be more than happy. Maybe they'll introduce a new monster, who knows?

        Loading editor
    • I actually wouldn't mind if they made an original monster or two.

    • Hey, if nothing else, it may help promote MH further in the West and get even more people into buying the series.

    • I'd be pretty surprised if this even gets released, let alone actually being good. I expect delays, changes of directors, then a gradual fade away from everyone's memories.

      hm.. ffs wiki!

anyway. dont judge something you dont know anything about. I cant relate at all to "such an open mind" since closing a case before it even begane is kinda eww. :)

btw, where did i compare capcoms ability with some other sh*tty 3rd partie company that fcked some other unrelated franchise up? Well, i still love watchin ecologie videos.

With this mindset thou, reboots are always sh*t, remakes are not needed and followups? who needs them? Jurassic world~ Godzilla 2014~ and name other movies that done it right with bringing a franchise to the golden screen. Video game or not it doesnt matter since telling a good story doesnt have anything to do with the source material wich in this case is a game.

Im only worried about the charakter voices thou... D:

    • ... Wow. Finally. And yea, I'm on here. The silent warrior has spoken.

    • So I've been off the wiki for at least two weeks, and this is what pops up? Can't say I have high hopes for this film, considering that videogame movies tend to be average at best, but hey, it could still be enjoyable in its own right if you don't take it seriously, like the Super Mario Bros. movie (kudos to Bob Hoskins for trying to give a good performance in a movie that was otherwise crammed with ham and cheese; something like that takes dedication).

Ah well, people will probably come to see the film just so they can witness the monsters in action, just like they did with the Godzilla films; seriously, does anybody give a shit about either series' storylines? All anyone really cares about is the action (can't blame them, though; the two series aren't exactly known for having engaging plots).

    • I'm not sure why anyones getting hyped for this...the director the the Resident Evil movies is in charge of the film and he thinks there are minotaurs in Monster Hunter as well as comparing the franchise to Star Wars and LotR. He doesn't have a clue. It's going to feature an average American who warps through a portal to the MH universe and the end of the film will have a portal opening into our world and oversized Rathalos and everything else MH will pour through and start doing battle with the military.

      It's going to be trash!

We know all of this. And barely anyone is hyped, if you look at the movie's official discussion blog. We know the movie's going to be decent at best and terrible at worst, but in the end, we're still getting monsters on the big screen and that's going to be awesome.

It won't even be decent at best. The entire thing sounds like a disaster. Monsters on the big screen? Sure have fun with Rathalos being depicted as the size of Fatalis or bigger.

judging from watching the last RE movie.. its gonna be terrible at best. I dont wanna watch a rathalos (doesnt matter wich size now for me) swoop down on a car in like 2000 camera angles for 5 seconds of fotage.

That really annoyed me in the last RE film. Something like twenty cameras switching every 1-2 seconds for one scene. ><

    • That's just a test footage. I agree about end part though, it doesn't fit well with Rathalos's body.

I do not give a crap about the plot. What matters is that we get to witness our favoruite monsters on screen. Especially fight scenes like ecology videos. About RE Movie, I've never been a fan of RE even though I did watch one movie and I don't even remember which movie either.  Is the director that bad?

If yes, then I have low expectations.

Anderson is REALY (and i mean realy.) hated by any RE fan out there for what he did with the movies compared to the source material. The movies have almost nothing to do with the games and his wife always enjoyed the mainrole of alice.

That and the fact that the movie plots are realy weak.. regarding the storytelling and logic in each movie alone AND over the whole movie series. Just watch the last movie and you know how bad the others were aswell. but beware, you might get motion sick by EVERY action scene since he makes use of the "multiple camera angles" technike EVERYBODY hates so much. You cant follow the scene well cuz the dmn point of view changes literaly (no joke!) 20 times in 5 seconds in every dmn fight.

This alone makes me worry that they will not show any respect for the MH franchise, be it the lore, for what MH stands or merely what "monsters" are capable off. You might see a rathalos that spits water or talks. It might even pull off a Paarthurnax and teaches our average american hero how to be a dragon bor..*cough*- monster hunter...

Yeah, that really bugged me. There's a big difference between True Wyverns and Pseudowyverns, but nobody seems to know that. In fact, a lot of the "Dragons" you see on TV are actually Pseudowyverns. e.g. Smaug in The Hobbit movie.

First off, Pseudowyvern is a MH fan exclusive term, Tigrex, Nargacuga and other monsters of that body type are still officially Flying Wyverns. Unless you are discussing among MH fans, Pseudowyvern has no meaning. Second, Smaug from the Hobbit film trilogy is a Wyvern, which are a type of dragons, so implying that he is no "true dragon" is absolute bullshit.
