What are Leviathan?

Leviathans (Japanese 海竜種) are a class of monsters first appearing in the third generation. This class is large wyverns that are specialized in swimming. Leviathans are known to usually be the top predators of their environments like Flying Wyverns.

List of Monsters in this Class

Ludroth and Royal Ludroth

  • Ludroth Harems have been seen in the Deserted Island, Flooded Forest, and Primal Forest.
  • A harem of Ludroth are lead by only one Royal Ludroth and the harem usually has only about ten females in it. Most harems aren't very big.
  • Ludroth need to stay near water sources due to them drying out in heat quite quickly. However, they have a small spongy mane that holds in large amounts of moisture, preventing them from drying out easily. From Royal Ludroth's huge mane, he can stay on land for longer periods of time without any worries.
  • Their manes are made of specialized hairs and fibers.
  • Ludroth and Royal Ludroth will attack any threats on sight.
  • They have very hard, strong teeth used for eating crustaceans, shellfish, and clams. They will also feed on algae on rare occasions though only when other food sources aren't around. Despite this Ludroth and Royal Ludroth are known to be omnivores, however, they prefer to feed on other animals though they will feed on almost anything.
    • Royal Ludroth have been seen hunting and killing lone Kelbi, Aptonoth, and Slagtoth while on land.
    • Occasionally, Royal Ludroth will bring their harem with them on land in order to get a meal if their hungry enough.
  • Ludroth are known to listen for splashes in the water due to the splashes possibly meaning carrion or potential prey left behind by a predator.
  • During Breeding Season, Ludroth will make a nest by digging into the sand and laying a clutch of seven eggs. Once the eggs are laid, the Ludroth will stay with their nest until its time for their eggs to hatch. As they guard their nest, the Royal Ludroth will fill his mane with water and hydrate each female with water so they don't die from the extensive heat. Once the eggs hatch, the young will stay and live in the shallows until they reach adulthood and feed on anything smaller than themselves.
    • The young are well-known for causing trouble in some areas such as stealing catches from fisherman.
  • Ludroth greatly fear fire and will avoid anything that holds it or has it. Royal Ludroth aren't afraid of it and will openly attack anything with it.
  • The crest on the Royal Ludroth's head is used for intimidation and become rigid when angry. In some cases, it may shine magnificently and could be sharper than sharp yet terribly beautiful.
  • In order for Royal Ludroth to gain or keep territory and a harem, Royal Ludroth must violently fight against each other in order to do so. Royal Ludroth are known to not usually keep their harem for very long, especially during the Breeding Season.
  • When in danger, Royal Ludroth will use the water stored up in his mane as a weapon to defend himself. However, by using the water Royal Ludroth will dehydrate quite quickly by using up so much water.
  • With Dash Extract, Royal Ludroth can cover major distances without a sweat.
  • Some people keep Royal Ludroth as pets.
  • The scales enable graceful movements, can in some cases reflect light in all directions and have a rainbow of colors shimmer on its surface.
  • The claw of a Royal Ludroth are better adapted for movement, plunging into the earth with each step taken. With older males, it allows them to charge through any terrain.

Purple Ludroth

  • Purple Ludroth are the same species as the Royal Ludroth though its unknown what exactly they are.
  • Poison has discolored his body, giving him a pale appearance, though some scales are not discolored and are milky-white in color.
    • These scales are used for accessories and jewelry.
  • Purple Ludroth prefer to live in or near shallow water because, if they soak in or jump into deep water, they will turn the water purple and poison the very water around them. This is why they prefer using other water sources.
  • The poison it spits is combined with water.
  • This poison has been made into some dangerous drugs and medicines.
  • A Plum Spongy Piel has potent toxins inside it that give off an ominous appearance.
  • A talon from a Purple Ludroth is primarily used for movement but still quite deadly!

Gobul

  • Gobul has lungs so it breaths air.
  • They are quite strange compared to other Leviathans.
  • Their whiskers are similar to airweeds and the bubbles found around the Flooded Forest is from them. From the whiskers looking similar, many plant eaters mistake them.
  • They don't have claws on their fins.
  • Gobul will eat prey by swallowing it whole or will suck up water to pull the creature in.
  • Their teeth aren't built for chewing but for grabbing and holding prey while swallowing it whole.
  • It's been suggested that the Gobul's stomach is about as large as a single Epioth.
  • Their favorite prey is large juicy frogs.
  • The lantern has the luminous bacteria inside of it, causing the glow like Ceadeus. It uses this to stun prey or as a defense against predators. With older Gobul, their flash can even stun deep-sea fish.
  • The barbs on Gobul have neurotoxins and is obtained by eating certain prey.
  • When enraged, they will suck in large amounts of air/water to make themselves bigger and to defend themselves.
  • They haven't been seen much in the sea but there has been sightings of then in near Moga. There has been report a report of a female Gobul spawning in the sea though no proof to this. Adult Gobul have been found and said to only be in the deepest part of the sea but their breeding behavior is a mystery.
  • Many hunters love eating Gobul, especially the livers!
  • The giant Gobul is a rare sight but has only been encountered in the Flooded Forest.
  • Interestingly, a boy in Moga was said to have caught a Gobul.
  • Gobul has no scales but it's skin is slimy.

Nibelsnarf

  • It gets the title Latent Mouth Wyvern from its huge mouth.
  • While under the sand, most of its body is hidden under the sand except its face and some of its back.
  • Its claws have evolved to be able to quickly and easily burrow through the desert sand. This allows it to dig and swim through the sand with ease along with allow it to ambush prey from under the sand.
  • Nibelsnarf is able to find prey by using vibrations and sound. When it senses prey is near, it will get up close to its prey and than ambush it with a single powerful bite. Its been recorded that Nibelsnarf can eat two Rhenoplos at once and while eating it will swallow large amounts of sand. A Nibelsnarf has even been reported to have eaten a whole merchant cart.
  • That little uvula stores nutrients and absorbs them. This organ is very important to them and they need this to survive in the harsh desert. Their scalp holds various other important organs.
  • Its gills are used to get rid of large amounts of sand that it swallowed and to absorb minerals. Sometimes they will use this sand, they swallowed as weapon against threats by sucking in some and firing it at targets. Their main weapon though is their mouth.
  • Nibelsnarf aren't very aggressive monsters, they just have a big appetite that sometimes isn't easily satisfied. Its suggested that if you are traveling through the Sandy Plains to try not to go around the sand much from them because they might mistake you for prey. If on the sand, look for small hills of sand and look to see if any pockets of sand is shooting from any of them.
  • Its Vivid/Brilliant/Dazzling Fluid helps it retain water and allows it to thrive in the desert.
  • Its hide has many different bright colors surprisingly upon in contrast to the outer shell. The hide of some Nibelsnarf is strong enough to withstand the desert and strength was honed by its long exposure to the desert sand.
  • The shell of Nibelsnarf has great strength and hornlike bulges.

Lagiacrus

  • Lagiacrus are the top predators of the sea and they will attack any other large monsters on sight, including other Lagiacrus.
  • Its title, Lord of the Sea, comes from the fact that Lagiacrus are able to sink whole ships. Its also called the Sea Wyvern by fisherman and sailors. Despite its title, Lagiacrus isn't limited to the sea but can also be found living freshwater areas if the water is deep enough to support it. From this, Lagiacrus becomes a most wanted monster in some areas.
    • Lagiacrus have also been seen swimming in some parts of the Old World such as the Primal Forest.
  • Lagiacrus can stay submerged underwater for about half a day. Its able to stay under for so long because, similar to crocodilians, it has a bony flap that it uses to block of water while underwater.
  • It limbs are very fin-like and its hood is as well along with its tail. These are used to help it swim at extreme speeds.
  • Lagiacrus is able to release lightning by contracted its cells at high speeds inside its muscles. When it does this some of the electricity actually combines with some of the mucus in its mouth, allowing it to spit out those lightning projectiles.
  • Lagiacrus hunt fish and Epioth. To hunt, they will make a whirlpool and suck prey into it while shocking prey with their powerful lightning shocks, killing them.
    • They also do this to ships and boats.
  • A Shell Shocker releases electricity, Shell Shocker+ permits greater electric output, and a Deathly Shocker releases huge bolts of lightning.
  • Its skin is quite soft and Lagiacrus Tails end up on Moga dinner plates.

Ivory Lagiacrus

  • Ivory Lagiacrus is much rarer than Lagiacrus and even just considered to be a near legend to seamen. Despite being rarer, it actually is a lot more dangerous than Lagiacrus.
  • Ivory Lagiacrus spends a lot more time on land than in the water but will hunt in the water when food is scarce on land and to travel to other areas. Its swimming abilities are pretty much beyond Lagiacrus.
  • Its lightning is much more destructive, can even harm Ivory Lagiacrus itself, its lightning has no cool time, and it can perform electrical attacks more often. To protect itself from its own shocks, it will feed on quartz, which mix with its shell and armor, making its body tougher and turning it into its white color. Its lightning can be used on land as well , unlike Lagiacrus.
  • The Chief of Moga went against an Ivory Lagiacrus many times for the past years until he finally retired from hunting. He retired because the Ivory Lagiacrus almost killed him with its powerful lightning.
  • Their scales gleam in light.
  • An Ivory Lagiacrus D-Shocker can produce rain thunderbolts.

Abyssal Lagiacrus

  • Abyssal Lagiacrus was an unknown extremely rare species of Lagiacrus that was thought to never exist until recently. It was only known in a ancient scroll:

From the abyss' darkest cave

Comes the master of the wave

Consumer of the world entire

Devil of the sea most dire

Fear it as you fear the grave

  • The Abyssal Lagiacrus' true identity is a Lagiacrus/Ivory Lagiacrus (This goes for both of them)that have gone through many years of living. This is their final stage of life.
    • Abyssal Lagiacrus are said to be about a hundred years old or older.
  • It has no equal when it comes to its power and its power is way beyond the other Lagiacrus.
  • Abyssal Lagiacrus is 3969.3cm long.
  • It is said to be the largest Leviathan though from how rare they are and from the fact one hasn't been measured its unknown as of now.
  • By staying in areas with no sunlight for long periods of time, a Lagiacrus/Ivory Lagiacrus becomes the Abyssal Lagiacrus.
  • Its ecology is unknown from its rarity.
  • It is said that it can remain charged for a very long time. Its lightning abilities have a farther range and much more power.
  • It glows from its body to attract deep sea prey such as plankton. It will use a whirlpool and shock prey with lightning while doing so before stopping and feeding on prey. It will also drown prey.
  • Its lightning is dark for unknown reasons. From this lightning, its called the The King of the Underworld, Incartion of the Sea God, and Thunder of Darkness.
    • Its rumored that Abyssal Lagiacrus may have an element known as Dark Thunder, Dragon.
  • Some of Abyssal's scales have an eerie glow.
  • Its shocker turns the sea into a electrified weapon.
  • The dynamo is said to be the source of Abyssal Lagiacrus's electricity.
  • Lagiacrus is the Symbol of the New World
  • The Guild are trying to learn about their breeding habits.
  • Lagiacrus = Normal, Ivory Lagiacrus = Mutation, and Abyssal Lagiacrus = Old Individual.
    • All three are the same species.

Pokara and Pokaradon

  • In their species, there are more female Pokara than there are male Pokaras plus only one Pokaradon rules the harem. Also, all Pokaradon are males so we could call a Pokaradon he/him/etc..
  • A Pokara's and Pokaradon's tusks are used to mainly help them fish and to feed on crabs along with other crustaceans. These tusks can also be used as weapons to fight off threats.
  • One of the roles of a female Pokara is to catch prey for the harem. Another role they have is to protect the young from threats. The young can mainly be seen playing and basking in the sun of Polar Sea. The young have been seen to have fur, which is used to keep them warm and for camouflage but when in danger they will jump into the water.
  • Pokaradon are quite different from the females and his young, when it comes to their appearance, size, behavior, and adaptions are different. His claws and tusks are designed more like weapons, unlike the Pokaras.
  • Pokaradon can actually be quite calm. They can sometimes be seen playing the young and the females along playing around in the snow. Despite this, they can turn aggressive very quickly and will relentlessly attack foes who harm any of their harem, showing no mercy to that threat! Even to death!
  • Pokaradon's main role in the harem is to protect the harem and eliminate all threats to the harem such as Giaorugu and Anorupatisu. The Pokaras are mainly targeted due to the fact they are rich with fat.
  • He fights off threats by breathing water, using his claws, tail, strength, powerful roars, and powerful sound waves by using his claws along with his immense power.
  • His thick skin is quite thick and actually isn't needed to keep him warm.
  • His claws are described to be like metal and by clapping his claws together, he can make a powerful sound wave that can stun some foes.
  • His bones are quite unique and allow it to move in the water and on land.
  • Some Pokaradons that sacrifice themselves for their harem and will leave behind tears after they die. These tears are frozen ice crystals that never melt.
  • His tail is used for swimming.

Kuarusepusu

  • Kuarusepusu get the title, Crystal Wyvern, from the crystals usually found on them. They gain these crystals by eating large amounts of ore that is processed by bacteria in its stomach to develop a crystal layer around its body that functions as armor and weapon at the same time. They are able to eat the ore with teeth on their bottom jaw designed to crush ore and scrap ore. These crystals react to loud sounds to attract and collect lightning and redirect it toward its prey and enemies alike, while it could also gather and preserve sunlight before unleashing them all in one big blinding blast of light.
  • When their young, they live in the sea but when their adults they move on to land. They are quite nomadic and will not stay in one area very long like Tigrex. They are mainly found living in the Desert and Highland but sometimes can rarely be found living in the Great Forest Peak. From the areas they are found in, its considered that this species is quite adaptable but its rare to see one.
  • When their young, they are quite soft to the touch but by eating ore when their older, their hide becomes very hard.
  • It is first known Leviathan that specializes in feeding on ore and they do feed on flesh from prey.
  • Its attacks and movements change depending on the weather in a area.
  • Kuarusepusu is longer and larger than Agnaktor, making it one of the largest known Leviathans.
  • Its scales are very much like ore from its diet of ore.
  • The scales on its underbelly are quite soft and allow it to slide over rocks in the Highland with ease.

Agnaktor

  • Agnaktor have actually caused the destruction of some villages within the Volcano.
  • Agnaktor beaks are strong enough to break through the tough armor of prey suggest as Rhenoplos with enough force.
  • Agnaktor will eat their young when their dead.
  • It seems that clapping of the beak is the way they communicate with each other and their young though adults do it less.
  • When another stronger threat is with Agnaktor, there will usually be more volcanic activity and more eruptions in the area from the two fighting.
  • From the gap of its scales, its able to produce a nonflammable mucus. This mucus is used to attach pieces of magma on its body.
  • Their beam is made of collected lava and heat in their body. It can even be seen in their chest, which their chest is extremely hot while glowing.
    • Scalding Pleura is the organ and shell from an Agnaktor's chest, used to fire its powerful beams. Some older Agnaktor have a chest plate fused together with ore that won't melt after many years or various different ores on it that are the key to their strength.
  • When the breeding season arrives both male and female will climb or swim to the summit of a active volcano to mate, this is also were most Agnaktor learn the dig through the ceiling technique. The female will then make a nest somewhere near the top. Agnaktor who use the ceiling digging attack have mated at least once in their life. The eggs of Agnaktors hatch inside their body and they can give birth to 2-30 babies.
  • Their scales are described to be like flares from them glowing, even after them being taken from the Agnaktor.
  • Their shell is able to withstand the heat of lava.
  • Some Agnaktor claws are sharpened by magma so hot it can melt through rock and even cause lava to cower away.

Glacial Agnaktor

  • Glacial Agnaktor is a subspecies of Agnaktor and is small compared to other Leviathans though its size comes close to some Lagiacrus.
  • Unlike other Leviathans, Glacial Agnaktor is considered to be unusual do to the fact that it lives in such a cold environment.
  • Its claws and beak are much stronger than Agnaktor's. Its fin is also stronger.
  • It will shoot a large amount of cold water at threats and prey alike and prefers to live in the caves of the Tundra.
  • Its material is different from Agnaktor from their cold resistance.
  • Their claws are used as spikes so they don't slip on ice.
    • A wound from a Glacial Agnaktor's Talons can freeze over instantly.
  • Glacial Agnaktor's hide has become tougher due to frozen properties.
  • The Dewy Pleura+ is covered by an extremely cold fluid while the Drenched Pleura is superchilled and colder than normal.
  • The fins of both species are used for ships.

Baruragaru

  • When large numbers of Ioprey corpses began to appear in the Swamp, the Guild sent hunters and researchers to investigate what caused them all to die. Found on all the dead Ioprey were unusual markings and on some Ioprey who managed to escape death which led to the hunters and researchers discovering Baruragaru.
    • Some hunters and researchers who came across Baruragaru weren't very fortunate and might've ended up like one of those Ioprey.
  • The Guild say that Baruragaru is an invasive species from the sea. Baruragaru have been seen invading the Swamp, Desert, and Jungle thus far. Baruragaru prefer areas with a water source they can swim in or where there is large amounts of moisture due to them needing to keep their skin moist.
  • Baruragaru gets the title, Blood Sucking Wyvern, from it using its tongue to suck prey dry.
  • On its forelimbs the Baruragaru has specialized fins that upon extremely close examination are covered in very small and fine tentacles. These tentacles are insulated and are electric proof. They are primarily used to its advantage as it swims in water or quickly burrows underground into mud or sand. They can also be used to hold down and subdue prey as it sucks its prey dry.
  • Baruragaru's fangs seem to not even have any type of use.
  • Unlike other Leviathans, Baruragaru's skin is described to be very stretchy and soft. Occasionally, Baruragaru will secrete a mucus to hold in moisture in their skin, allowing them to use water-based attacks.
  • Baruragaru's main weapon and tool is its tongue. The tongue is used like a whip against enemies when protecting itself and capturing far away prey yet is tubular. The tip of the tongue is even able to pierce through skin before sucking up the blood of its prey.
  • Baruragaru has a special organ that separates the toxins and impurities of toxic prey from the blood so it won't be poisoned by its own toxic meal. Baruragaru's body also has a strange, thick fluid that moves toxins and impurities to the fluids where it gets used as a weapon. Its said it responds to a variety of chemicals and gets used by people as a catalyst. Due to this fluid and that special organ, Baruragaru is immune to all sorts of poisons and toxins.
  • Baruragaru not only suck the blood of their prey for food but also for constant defense against potential threats that may attack them which maybe a bad thing for some other species. From them needing to constantly protect themselves, Baruragaru may need to suck the blood of a lot of species in order to keep their defense. This may explain why the Ioprey population in the Swamp decreased so dramatically.
  • Combined with water and its own body fluids, Baruragaru are able to produce and spit a corrosive liquid from its body.
  • The blood of Baruragaru is often fused with the blood with other species so its hard to get the real blood of a Barurgaru.
  • The tail of Barurgaru is like a tube and kinda like an injecting needle, allowing it to spray substances from it.
  • The combs on Baruragaru's head remains the same color even when in water.
  • The back fins of Baruragru are a fine scarlet and used for the blades of weapons

Mizutsune

  • Mizutsune is a new Leviathan species recently confirmed to live in the Misty Peaks.
  • It gets the title, Bubble Fox Wyvern, from its great beautiful appearance.
  • Mizutsune resembles a sacred beast found in some of Yukumo's legends. This sacred beast had petals on it that resembled a flower, which was a symbol to the people.
  • Mizutsune had a special, unique evolution compared to other Leviathan species. It is very agile, flexible, and quick on land.
  • Mizutsune's most unique trait is its ability to produce bubbles. It is able to produce the bubbles by using special fluid secretions, produced from its own body, and rubbing its hairs in the secretions. These hairs are used for sliding on the fluids it produces, spreading the fluids, and even using the fluids to produce more bubbles.
    • On Mizutsune's chest, tail, legs, and sides are these purple hairs.
    • It is also able to breath these bubbles from its mouth.
    • These bubbles are used to make it harder for prey to run and evade it, causing them to slip around like a crazy dance.
  • It is known to use the bubbles it produces both offensively and defensively in battle. It uses the bubbles to help it move faster and to make it more flexible in battle.
    • Mizutsune's quick movements, while facing off against predator or prey, gives it another title, The Bewitching Dance.
  • Despite Mizutsune's strange appearance, the fins it has actually act as receptors for detecting the presence of predators and prey coming while it is seating in the bubbles.
  • Mizutsune prefer feeding on fish and other small creatures since it prefers swallowing its prey whole. Though it prefers feeding on smaller prey, Mizutsune can swallow larger prey whole.
    • Its jaws are even said to be designed similar to a snake to some extent.
    • Mizutsune's teeth are recurved to prevent it from releasing prey easily.
  • Mizutsune become aggressive or even berserk during their Breeding Season. In this season, it is not a good idea to go fishing from them being known to injure people due to their blind rage.
  • Mizutsune aren't very territorial monsters. They prefer to avoid confrontations, however, will defend themselves if need be. Once a threat has left, Mizutsune won't chase after the threat but will instead let it go.
  • Mizutsune's design motif comes from the goldfish, fox, orchids, and snake.
  • Mizutsune is the beauty of the Elite Four.
  • Hunters only hunt down male Mizutsune in-game, according to the Hunter's Guild.
    • Male Mizutsune have large fins and flash red to show their emotions towards females. The males are the only ones with these large fins.
    • Female Mizutsune have duller colors and smaller fins.
  • Mizutsune's scales have many different colors to them with different lighting to them.
    • The scales of old Mizutsune is living jewelry after being soaked in bubbles for so long.
  • The rare plate of old Mizutsune are said to turn into a rainbow once light reflects from them.
  • Its hairs feel stiff yet soft. The hairs known to be covered in bubbles.
    • Due to the darker dye from years of bubbles, the hairs have more affinity and are harder.
  • Mizutsune claws allow it to freely stop quickly while sliding. These claws are used as spikes to stop in its tracks.
    • Older claws prevent friction.
  • Inside of the bubbly fluids of Mizutsune is water only found in the Misty Peaks.
    • High quality bubbles of Mizutsune is used for rituals in Cathar. These bubbles are also used for bathing and for getting rid of other impurities.
  • The gem of a Mizutsune is crystallized bubbles. It has so many beautiful colors, one can actually lose count of the colors.
  • The hairs were put on Mizutsune to fit with it using the bubbles like a brush.
  • To make the scales and hairs stand out from each other, the developers had scales reflect sunlight so they could give a beautiful elegant appearance of an aquatic animal.
  • Its front and back legs come from Ferrets and Weasels.
  • Mizutsune's equipment design came from the kimono.
  • The concept for Mizutsune's armor was a Fox Marriage (キツネの嫁入り). The male armor gives the appearance of a groom (新郎) while the female armor gives the appearance of a bride (新婦).
  • Female Mizutsune live in large groups together with their young of both genders. When male Mizutsune are mature, they leave the group and live a solitary life.
    • Though this is rare, some female Mizutsune may follow a similar behavior to the males.
  • The status bubbles, known to be thrown by Mizutsune, actually has some materials of the they ingested food. That is the reason why those bubbles give hunters those buffs.
  • The Bubblefoam has two main uses for Mizutsune: Defense and Moisture.
    • Mizutsune spend most of their time on land, so they evolved away to stay moist without needing to go to bodies of water.
    • Mizutsune use the Bubblefoam for defense by laying it down around them. The fins on their body, especially face, is used for picking up vibrations given off by potential threats. They prefer to run rather than fight. To ensure a threat can't follow them easily, Mizutsune are known to bait enemies into the secretions they laid down. By baiting them into the Bubblefoam, Mizutsune can cause the threat to lose its footing and slip around, before they make a quick escape. However, if Mizutsune are protecting their young than they will stay and fight.

Heavenly Eye Mizutsune

  • Heavenly Eye Mizutsune's eyes were gouged out by another monster in a fearsome battle for territory. From this battle, Heavenly Eye Mizutsune is now blind.
  • Heavenly Eye Mizutsune's claws, bubblefoam, and fins have gone through their own unique development compared to other Mizutsune.
  • Heavenly Eye Mizutsune usually are sleeping, but are covered in their body secretions to pick up vibrations from coming threats. They'll get up if a foe gets too close for comfort.
  • Unlike normal Mizutsune, Heavenly Eye Mizutsune are known to uses bubbles of all sorts of sizes for defense and will occasionally release this bubble aura. These individuals actually use the bubbles to "see" foes.
  • When enraged, Heavenly Eye Mizutsune's eyes will begin to glow blue. This is its "Foxfire"! When enraged, it is able to send blue bubbles at foes that have the Fire Element.
      • Its secondary name, Heavenly Eye, comes from water vapor coming out of its eyes when enraged.
