Discussion of the Week: Monster Revamps

Hello, and welcome to the Discussion of the Week!

This week we look at some of the monster revamps in the Monster Hunter series!

Rathalos and Rathian[]

Lets start with easily the most revamped monsters in the series, Rathalos and Rathian! In the 3rd Generation, they received a dramatic overhaul from their 1st - 2nd Generation incarnations and oh boy what an update! Now the Raths are more like real life animals instead of stiff robots. They hover above hunters now, expanding on all their previous attacks, including truly showing off Rathalos's flying capabilities. I wonder if the Raths could get another incarnation or revamp in the future?

Diablos[]

Wow, Diablos has went through its own share of changes in the Monster Hunter series! Not only was its appearance changed, but its fighting style as well! Heck, it changed twice in fact! In 3rd Generation, it would catapult out of the sand to damage hunters, while in the 4th Generation, it would burst out of the sand before charging forward! Like the Raths, I wonder what else Capcom could give this monster? I also want to see Demon King Diablos return. Even though Massacre Demon Diablos does exist, I still want to see Demon King Diablos brought back.

Zinogre[]

This is one that people barely notice. You see Zinogre was basically fast and a combo king in MHP3, however, in MH3U that changed... Don't get me wrong, MH3U's Zinogre was alright but it was just missing the maneuverability of those combos. If you think about it, that Zinogre rarely was accurate with its tail slam and just seemed locked/forced. Don't even get me started with that new charging up animation, it just looked so wrong on Zinogre, at least in my opinion... However, the 4th Generation brought Zinogre back to its former glory and gave it some must needed new attacks, even making Stygian Zinogre a true terror once again with its new found combos! Oh yeah, we can't forget about Frontier's awesome Zinogre!

Barioth[]

I might get hate for this, but I've always loved Tri's Barioth! Its quick movements and its leaps just made the monster seem more threatening until MHP3 butchered the big cat... Seriously? A hipcheck? That is so random and lame, at least to me anyway. Even though MHXX's Barioth is copy-pasted from MHP3's, at least it got a new wing slash into some random attacks combo. I honestly say that Tri's Barioth and even Frontier's Barioth are my favorite incarnations of the monster.

Plesioth[]

No! I'm not talking about this son of a bitch! Seriously, who the fuck keeps making Plesioth shit in each game it is made in?! In the 1st - 2nd Generation, this monster was the bane of all hunters before it was revamped in the 3rd Generation. True, it was tolerable now, but that just doesn't excuse the monster of being an annoying underwater monster. I would be fine with Plesioth now if it wasn't for MHGen and MHXX... Who demanded that thing back in the 4th Gen?! That isn't a fucking revamp, that is just the shitty leftovers of the 1st - 2nd Gen Plesioth!

Lavasioth[]

The best revamp Piscine Wyvern in the whole series! Enough said.

Lagiacrus[]

Lagiacrus is a beast with no rivals that can take it on in the sea, however, that all changed in Monster Hunter Generations. Now Lagiacrus is the Lord of the Sea and Land! I do like what they did with Lagiacrus in the 4th Generation, including the fact that they found a way to bring my favorite back, however, I feel they did this a bit too late. Back in MHP3, MHGen's Lagiacrus would've been perfect for that era, even if Zinogre just plain replaced it. Though I like its 4th Generation revamp, I hope to see it return to its element!

Blangonga[]

It got a turning punch? That's okay I guess?

Lao-Shan Lung[]

There is a shitstorm and I will be the cause! I don't care if any person is about to try to defend how Lao-Shan Lung is in MHXX but when you fight it, you'll see what I mean. Keep an eye open on the comments this week.
